NFL Draft Zone:
Last week, Alfonso Smith was hoping to get a phone call and get back into the NFL. Well, the patience paid off for the former Kentucky running back. Smith had several workouts before getting a call from Arizona when running back Beanie Wells went down. Well last week the Arizona Cardinals took another huge loss, when running back Ryan Williams went down with a shoulder injury. Well yesterday we found out that Williams will be out the entire NFL season leaving the only running backs on the roster, La’Rod Stephens-Howling, William Powell, and Alfonso Smith.
While the fans are in love with William Powell and La”Rod Stephens-Howling they are both small scat backs. They will need to pass the ball if they want to win, so I would expect them to use Smith in the game more, because of his superb blocking skills. Last week when he was in the game blocking for Kolb he did not allow a sack until Kolb motioned him out the backfield on a 4th and 1 on the 10 yard line.
I expect Alfonso to have a great week rushing the ball, especially going up against the Buffalo Bills run defense, who has been torched the last two weeks in a row for 550 and 600 plus offensive yards. This could be a great player to pick up in deep fantasy leagues, especially if you need a runningback because yours is on a bye.
BEST OF MAXIM
The Arizona Cardinals got off to an incredible 4-0 start that hit a wall when they were defeated by the St. Louis Rams on Thursday. They lost more than the game when their starting running back Ryan Williams went down with a season ending shoulder injury. Please Click Here To Read This Story.
The Arizona Cardinals received some disappointing news this afternoon when it was learned that starting running back Ryan Williams has been lost for the season due to a left shoulder injury that will require surgery. Williams suffered the injury when he took a hard hit last Thursday against the Rams. Arizona is already without former starter Beanie Wells, who is out until at least...
CARDINALS TO GIVE WILLIAM POWELL FIRST LOOK AT STARTING SPOT -
ESPN’s Adam Schefter has reported that William Powell will likely be given the first shot at the Cardinals’ running back position, which had been vacated by both Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams due to injuries. Most people certainly have no idea what to expect when Powell takes the field against the Bills on Sunday...
Cardinals RB Ryan Williams Out For Remainder Of The Season -Ryan Williams will require surgery to repair the AC joint in his left shoulder and is done for the remainder of the season. It’s a rough blow for increasingly one of the league’s most tough-luck players. Williams suffered the injury in last Thursday night’s loss to the Rams. William Powell figures to be the favorite...
The Cardinals offense has been one-dimensional this year with Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams failing to produce results on the ground. Now, due to injuries, William Powell will get a chance to make an impact.
Ryan Williams is cursed. That seems official now. Beanie Wells is made of class - also official. La'rod Stephens-Howling has a ridiculous first name, hyphenated last name and 12 rushes for 1 year. In case you are keeping score at home that's an amazing 0.1 ypc average. That leaves rookie rusher William Powell who led the rushing in the presesaon but suffered a head injury in week 5.
According to Darren Urban of AZCardinals, Cardinals running back Ryan Williams will need to undergo surgery on his injured shoulder and will miss the remainder of the season.
This is a big blow for the Cardinals with Beanie Wells and Larod Stephens-Howling already out with injuries.
THE BIGGEST TALKING POINT for Washington State coach Mike Leach recently has been his team's lack of leadership. Leach continued to discuss those issues and the Cougars' quarterback and offensive line situations during his Monday afternoon teleconference. WSU hosts California at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (TV: Pac-12 Networks).
FROM NFL FILM to Oregon, Washington State coach Mike Leach was asked a hodgepodge of questions during his Pac-12 coaches teleconference Tuesday morning as the Cougars prepare to face California at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Martin Stadium (TV: Pac-12 Networks).
A visit from the defensively challenged Buffalo Bills might be what the banged-up Arizona Cardinals need to get back on track.
Now missing their top two rushers, the Cardinals look to rebound from their first loss of the season while trying to hand the reeling Bills a third consecutive defeat Sunday.
Arizona (4-1) was off to its best start in 38 years before being roughed up in...
This is one of the rare times that I can brag a little. Last week’s preview was dead on. Fans of the greatest show on turf may not have rejoiced, but, for now, this is the blueprint for success. Before we get into the review, I have a few comments.
First, when I went back and watched the game recording, I was more than a little surprised how well the offensive tackles...
QBAlex Smith – Still available is almost 50% of leagues, Alex Smith is coming off a 303 yard 3 TD performance against the Buffalo Bills. This week he faces the New York Giants and they allow the 10th most yards and the 14th most fantasy points to QB’s. Eli and the Giants figure to put up at least 24 points, so Alex is going to need to score for the 49er’s to have a chance...
