The Kansas City Chiefs came out firing, trading for Alex Smith and then blitzing free agency early. Andy Reid now is starting to focus on what he does best, the NFL Draft. According to Chris Wesseling of, Reid is starting to manipulate the top 10, and anybody who really wants their top guy has to go through the Chiefs and Reid knows it. The Kansas City coach spoke about having the first overall pick and that just because they traded for Smith, the other Smith isn’t out of the question. Wesseling writes: ‘That leverage may have been in the back of head coach Andy Reid's mind Tuesday when he claimed that West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith is not "out of the water" as one of eight or 10 draft possibilities despite the recent trade for Alex Smith. "I'm going to keep my eyes open on everybody. I think Geno is a good quarterback," Reid said. "We'll just see how it all goes, get this workout thing going." Translation: If you want the draft's top quarterback prospect, come get him.' var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});

Chiefs GM Dorsey, no definite first round quarterback

Draft season is usually dominated by the discussion of where high ranked quarterbacks will be drafted, but that hasn't been the case this year. It's widely believed that Geno Smith will be selected inside the top ten in April's draft, but beyond that it's a crapshoot. Matt Barkley will likely be drafted at some point in the first round, largely due to the lack of...

Brandon Albert will sign his franchise tender

According to Mike Garafolo of USA Today Sports, Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Brandon Albert will sign his franchise tender. Chiefs OT Branden Albert has accepted his franchise tender. Will sign it soon. $9.828 million for this season. Smart move. — Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) March 18, 2013 It looks like Albert will be playing in Kansas City for the 2013 season.  Unless...

Andy Reid: Geno Smith in play for K.C. Chiefs’ No. 1 pick

Will a team trade with Kansas City to draft Geno Smith at the number one overall position in April? (AP Photo) When the Kansas City Chiefs traded their second round pick to San Francisco for quarterback Alex Smith, most believed the team would not be drafting a quarterback with their number one overall pick. Today, it looks like that might still be a possibility. Today, Kansas City’s...

Chiefs Willing To Listen To Trade Offers For OT Brandon Albert?

Peter King of believed the Chiefs ”will listen” to trade offers for OT Branden Albert. Albert, 28, received the Chiefs franchise tag a few weeks ago and is set to make a $9.83 million for the upcoming season. Recent reports have suggested that the Chiefs were hoping to work out a long-term deal with Albert, but the fact that they recently released RT Eric Winston...

Daniel signing creates dilemma for KU fans

KANSAS CITY, Mo. Former Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel knows that by signing with the Chiefs, he's created somewhat of a dilemma for some Chiefs fans. As in those Chiefs fans who also happen to be Kansas Jayhawkers. "They might have a tough time accepting this," Daniel said. "But hey, I might end up living in Kansas. But they have to realize the facilities...

There Are No ‘Winners’ In March

General manager John Dorsey (left) and the Chiefs have been busy adding players I have to admit I get a little frustrated at this time of year. Not because GM Ted Thompson refuses to pay average players like superstars, but because he refuses to pay anyone. I keep waiting for him to add another Ryan Pickett to the roster, but it hasn’t happened in the past seven years and it...

Andy Reid Says Geno Smith Is Still An Option For Chiefs With #1 Pick

Andy Reid is all about gamesmanship, and with his Kansas City Chiefs owning the #1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Reid is holding all the cards. The Chiefs traded for quarterback Alex Smith, so all indications were that the Chiefs would have their sights set on offensive tackle. Not so fast according to Reid.  The Chiefs are very aware that any team that covets quarterback...
