They're as American as apple pie, bald eagles and The Star-Spangled Banner. They're the New England Patriots.

According to Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie, the Patriots are no longer just a successful football franchise you either love or you hate. They're now "America's team," a phrase the Dallas Cowboys have long staked claim to.
"Honestly, you can't say they're not," Cromartie told reporters Wednesday. "Everybody talks about New England. If they're losing they're talking about New England. If they're winning they're talking about them all the time. So I call them the new America's Team."
Cromartie is typically one for high praise, but much of that is usually placed on himself. Yet in advance of the Jets' Week 7 visit to New England, it's Bill Belichick and the Patriots who are the recipients of some kind words.
"They're always in the playoffs," Cromartie said of the Pats. "Every single year they're coming up and having a chance to win the Super Bowl. When you have a dynasty team like Coach Belichick has put together, they're always going to be talked about."
The Jets are always going to be talked about as well, but that chatter is for reasons other than gridiron success. America's team, they are not.
