It’s often debated in defensive circles, 3-4 or 4-3? When you ask defensive players, there always seem to be a definite opinion, one way or the other. Miami Dolphins linebacker Karlos Dansby recently shed some light on how he feels. He like the transition to the 4-3, and feels it will give him a faster landscape to play on.

“Without a doubt,” Dansby said when asked, “In a 4-3 defense, just half a second. That’s all you really need, you can make a lot of plays with that half second,” he told The Finsiders website

Former defensive coordinator Mike Nolan was a 3-4 guy, and having to read and react doesn’t come natural to a lot of players. The 4-3 is straight forward, there aren’t as many gap principles, and as Dansby alluded to, the players get to attack not react.

New defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle knows that middle linebacker is the glue that will hold his defense together, and Dansby who played inside linebacker in the 3-4, will slide over and man the middle all by his lonesome.

“He’s putting a lot of pressure on me right now to make sure I do it the right way,” said Dansby. “That’s a good thing, especially being a vet at this level.”
