Jason Snelling scores a touchdown. He finished with 53 yards on 11 carries and 58 yards on four receptions. (Photo Credit: AtlantaFalcons.com) The Atlanta Falcons have knowingly suffered from the injury bug. Yet, that can’t be an excuse or stop a team that has dreams of being an elite franchise. Not to take away the pain and problems that come with losing four or five starters in a week, but there were many mistakes the team made offensively that could’ve been avoided and resulted in the team’s loss against the undefeated Miami Dolphins. During the first drive, the Falcons made a good balance of yes, throwing the ball to down the field, but also running the ball. This drive resulted in a touchdown by Jason Snelling. After that, the new defensive star, Osi Umenyora, sacked Ryan Tannehill, stopping the Dolphins from scoring. The next drive the offense only managed a field goal, and on the drives after, this continued. The offense made it to the red zone four or five times, but only came out with the field goal. Falcons fans are more than aware and exhausted from watching their team struggle to score. While they did manage to put points on the board, they didn’t get to the end zone enough to seal the deal with the Dolphins. The Falcons also recovered a fumble and got an interception but did absolutely nothing with the opportunity. During one critical drive in the fourth quarter, instead of going for a first down, they asked Matt Ryan and his offense to complete a pass to the end zone. They tried on first down, then on second, and third, all to the end zone instead of just trying to get the first down and make it first and goal. Making mistakes like that in key situations when the team is nowhere near healthy, is going to lead to more losses if the Falcons don’t make smarter decisions. This team even with the injuries, is more than capable of winning games until their star players make it back on the field. The coaches have to be more mindful of the fact they have a newer team on both sides of the ball than what we all planned. If the coaches keep that in mind and keep the Falcons’ offense consistently scoring touchdowns, then the team will have a winning record and will only get better when Steven Jackson, Sean Weatherspoon, and others return.
