According to Jamison Hensley of ESPN, the Baltimore Ravens could very well approach wide receiver Torrey Smith about a contract extension this coming offseason. There have been speculations that Baltimore could be interested in getting an extension done at some point in the near future with Smith. Smith will certainly command a large contract, and there are rumors swirling that he could make up to $10 million per season. Torrey Smith was the #1 wide receiver for Joe Flacco and the Ravens this season after the team traded Anquan Boldin to the 49ers last offseason. Smith caught 65 passes for a total of 1,128 yards and four touchdowns. Those numbers obviously don’t look like huge numbers, but Smith’s impact on the game is much more than those stats indicate. The Ravens don’t have a lot of money to work with this coming offseason, but they likely could make some things happen to get a deal done with Smith if they wanted to go that route. Smith has said that he would like to stay in Baltimore long-term and be the top target for Flacco, but that it was up to the Ravens to make the first move. It appears that Baltimore is ready to make the move, and don’t be surprised to see a deal get done between the two sides this offseason. Overall, this was a highly expected possibility as the Ravens can’t afford to let their top wide receiver walk. They moved Boldin knowing that Smith was ready to take the step into being the top wide receiver on the roster, and he showed that it wasn’t a mistake. His numbers will likely go up a bit next season, but there were quite a few bright spots in his season this past year as well.
