Found August 29, 2012 on Bears Backer:

According to the Chicago Tribune, veteran WR Rashied Davis has been let go by the Chicago Bears.

Davis told the Tribune Wednesday morning that the Bears had released him.

He was battling with second-year receiver Dane Sanzenbacher who flashed his skills in 2011 as an undrafted rookie.

Davis wasn’t able to practice on Tuesday after suffering what the Tribune is calling an “undisclosed” injury.

He’s been a fan favorite in his time in Chicago and would have been a solid contributor on special teams if he stayed healthy.

Sanzenbacher added 27 catches for 276 yards and three touchdowns a season ago. He showed he can play special teams this season, so that made Davis expendable.

Marshall, Bennett, Hester and Jeffery will serve as the top four receivers while Eric Weems and Dane Sanzenbacher will be the likely backups.

It was tough for Davis to get things going in camp because he was brought in so late, but the Bears made the right move keeping Sanzenbacher.

It would have been a big mistake. He would have been scooped up by a team in dire need of a receiver. A team like the Minnesota Vikings perhaps.

Jay Cutler is happy right now because he has developed a nice repertoire with Sanzenbacher.

It’s sad to see Rashied Davis go, but at age 33 he simply isn’t the same player he was when he was an integral part of the Chicago Bears.

This could be the end for Rashied’s NFL career. He will likely stay in shape to see if he latches on to another team, but it could be tough.

He joins veterans Plaxico Burress, Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens as the most experienced free agent receivers.

The Bears roster is currently at 74 players now that Davis has been released. They must get down to 53 players by Friday night.

Devin Hester Being Relieved of Kick Return Duties Makes No Sense

When the Chicago Bears drafted Devin Hester in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft, everyone knew they were getting a dynamic kick return specialist. As the years have gone on, Bears head coach Lovie Smith has said time and time again that he’d like to limit the number of returns Hester has per year. As the Chicago Tribune reported, that is again the case as Chicago hopes newly...

Bears Considering Cutting Brian Urlacher?

Brian Urlacher is the unquestioned leader of the Bears, but may not have the legs to be the leader or player he once was. The Chicago Sun Times is reporting that cutting the 12 year vet and 5 time all pro is a feasible option. Urlacher will be an unrestricted free agent next season, and is due $7.5 million in 2012 if he is on the roster September 9. He has been unable to...
