According to the Chicago Tribune, veteran WR Rashied Davis has been let go by the Chicago Bears.
Davis told the Tribune Wednesday morning that the Bears had released him.
He was battling with second-year receiver Dane Sanzenbacher who flashed his skills in 2011 as an undrafted rookie.
Davis wasn’t able to practice on Tuesday after suffering what the Tribune is calling an “undisclosed” injury.
He’s been a fan favorite in his time in Chicago and would have been a solid contributor on special teams if he stayed healthy.
Sanzenbacher added 27 catches for 276 yards and three touchdowns a season ago. He showed he can play special teams this season, so that made Davis expendable.
Marshall, Bennett, Hester and Jeffery will serve as the top four receivers while Eric Weems and Dane Sanzenbacher will be the likely backups.
It was tough for Davis to get things going in camp because he was brought in so late, but the Bears made the right move keeping Sanzenbacher.
