Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is a big fan of the no-huddle. “I think the game of football is a chess match between coordinators. We’re just pawns playing it and trying to do what they tell us to do,” Roethlisberger said Tuesday afternoon, via Scott Brown of ESPN.com. “That’s why the no-huddle is effective in my opinion because I’m calling things as I see them out there where offensive coordinators have to call the play off of tendencies or what they think is going to happen. Same thing for a defense. Obviously audibles can happen and things. It’s not easy being a coordinator and we as players just try to go out and execute to the best of our abilities.” Coach Mike Tomlin said last week that Roethlisberger is choosing some of the plays in the no-huddle, but they are plays that are part of the team’s regular offense and part of a menu of plays decided before each game. “Make no mistake. There is a lot of preparation that goes into this,” said Tomlin to the team’s website. “There is a menu of plays decided upon collectively during the course of the week, and he is simply picking from that menu. We’re not there unscripted, leaving him up to his devices, even though he’s fully capable, that wouldn’t be fair to him. There is preparation involved. There is a certain level of preparation and preparedness and a menu, if you will. “Those plays that we employ in no-huddle, we also employ in our normal offense. It’s not like it’s a different set of plays. It’s just how we choose to communicate prior to the ball being snapped and the smaller menu, if you will, of play selection associated with no-huddle offense.” The Steelers visit the Baltimore Ravens Thursday.  Both teams are 5-6, and both teams face elimination from the AFC North title.  The loser will fall behind in the race for the AFC’s second wild-card playoff spot. “Honestly we’re 0-0 right now,” Roethlisberger said. “There’s no hot streak, there’s no win streak, there’s no loss streak. We’re looking for out first win this week. We’re just trying to get one win and that’s all that matters.” The post Ben Roethlisberger: ‘The no-huddle is effective in my opinion’ appeared first on Sports Glory.
