Yesterday, in London, the Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Minnesota Vikings 34-27 to fall to 0-4, their worst start since 1968. One of the biggest problems facing the Steelers is their lack of a rushing attack. Over their first four games, the Steelers are averaging just 58.0 yards per game on the ground. Only the Giants (57.8), Jaguars (49.0) and Rams (47.3) have less yards on the ground per game.
Despite a passing game that is 8th best in the NFL with 283 yards per game, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is taking blame for the team’s poor start.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, after two more turnovers yesterday, Roethlisberger said “he’s starting by holding himself accountable for his bad play and promised to do the best he can to lead the team to better results in the coming weeks.”
Roethlisberger also believes his team is the worst in the league.
“Right now, you could say we’re the worst team in the league,” Roethlisberger said, via the Associated Press. “That hurts.”
To be fair, the Steelers have lost to three good teams against the Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals and Chicago Bears. The only bad loss so far for the Steelers was this Sunday’s to the Minnesota Vikings.
If I had to pick the worst team in the NFL, it would easily be Jacksonville who is also 0-4 but has yet to score over 17 points.
The Jaguars have also been held under 10 points in three out of their first four games.
At least Roethlisberger understands he needs to work to try and turn around the Steelers season.
