It is almost impossible believe that the New England Patriots couldn’t cough up $2 million more over 2-years in their offer to Wes Welker. He gave the Pats the opportunity to match the deal he received from the Broncos, but the Patriots, and more appropriately, Bill Belichick, bid adieu to their leading receiver of the last five years. Belichick was felt he no longer needed him on his football team, and this has somewhat infuriated fans. Belichick won’t say it publicly, because he just doesn’t do that, but it rather obvious that Welker wasn’t one his favorite guys on the team. Welker broke ranks a couple of years ago and found himself benched from starting in the Patriots playoff game against the Jets because he decided to make jokes about Rex Ryan’s foot fetish. The Pats franchised him a year ago, which reportedly upset Welker. At start of the 2012 season there were rumors of him being phased out of the offense, even though it only appeared to be the first game.
