Getty Images According to Pat Yasinkas of ESPN.com, Panthers wide receiver Brandon LaFell currently has the number two receiver spot locked up. “Brandon LaFell pretty much has locked up the No. 2 wide receiver job opposite Steve Smith,” wrote Yasinkas. The only reason LaFell is locked in at the second receiver is because the panthers don’t have any on better.  He still  needs to prove that he’s a legit receiver.

Mike Tolbert to replace Jeremy Shockey in Panthers’ offense

When the Panthers signed Mike Tolbert this offseason, it was a head scratching move for both parties. Tolbert has rushed for 1225 yards and 17 touchdowns on 303 carries in the last 2 seasons, along with another 79 catches for 649 yards and 2 touchdowns. He has the talent to be part of a running back tandem somewhere in the league. Meanwhile, the Panthers already had two talented...

Josh Norman has big day in Panthers camp

Carolina Panthers 5th-round pick Josh Norman has been fairly quiet early this preseason, but he made sure everyone took notice of his performance on Tuesday afternoon. According to the Panthers official twitter feed, Norman picked off four passes, including three in a half-hour span. CB Josh Norman has made his fourth interception of the day. Three occurred in the past half hour...

Panthers' Rivera wants better effort from players

Panthers coach Ron Rivera says he's looking for better effort from his players this week in practice following what he called a ''disappointing performance'' Saturday night against Houston. Rivera was not thrilled with his players' lackluster approach in the 26-13 preseason loss. Rivera stressed throughout training camp the importance of building an identity...

Panthers Notebook: Stewart a key asset

There was a time this summer when Jonathan Stewart wasnt entirely sure where his future in football was. He was hoping to remain a Carolina Panther, but when the team acquired Mike Tolbert from the San Diego Chargers, rumors swirled that Stewart may be on his way out. But thats obviously not going to happen any time soon after the team recently signed the fifth-year back out of...

Is David Gettis a sleeper?

Last night, I was flipping through the Fantasy Football preview edition of ESPN the magazine. In part of it, they identified 5 receivers that could be sleepers, looking for “guys with size and speed to burn”. Among the players they identified as a potential sleeper, primarily because of his ability to go downfield. Is Gettis really poised for a break out season, or even a ...

A quarterback’s body language speaks louder than words

Actions speak louder than words and in Cam Newton’s case his body language during the fourth quarter of games speaks volumes. So much so that two of his teammates felt the need to talk to him about it last season. Newton speaking to the media a few days after a win against the Houston Texans [...]

Did Cam Newton and His Panthers Take The Texans Seriously?

It’s pre-season Cm Newton didn’t play very much. The Texans took advantage of the Carolina Panthers beating them 26-13. You have to wonder if the Panthers even care about the game. Cam Newton only played a short time in the game. It didn’t look like the Cam Newton people were ready to see, he was 2 for 6 and got sacked once for a 10 yard loss. Newton only had 17 yards in the...

Panthers give Stewart 5-year extension

Jonathan Stewart never doubted he was going to remain with the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers reached a five-year contract extension with the fifth-year running back hours before their preseason opener Saturday night, meaning Stewart and close friend DeAngelo Williams will remain teammates for the foreseeable future.

Carolina Panthers: Coaches, players disappointed by lack of effort

The Carolina Panthers first preseason game of the 2012 season was not pretty. The offense bogged down, the special teams did not help much and the team played with little emotion. Yes, it was the first game, and despite the lack of game-planning by the Panthers, if they are truly committed to being a contender this season, things have to change…and quickly. “Even though it...

2012 NFL Preseason Week 1: Panthers vs. Texans

Rookie outside linebacker Luke Kuechly delivered a performance to fans on Friday night that showed why the Carolina Panthers chose him in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Kuechly tallied four tackles (2 solo, 2 assists) and caused a forced fumble in his brief action in Saturday night’s 26-13 loss to the defending AFC South Champion Houston Texans, and was in on almost every...

Newton battling giant expectations

He is the prototype of a video game quarterback come to life. That's how Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams views being in the same backfield as Cam Newton. "It's the equivalent of playing Madden," Williams recently said at Panthers training camp. "It was like having a running quarterback when (Michael) Vick was with Atlanta. Everybody would...

Hey girl, Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton is still very handsome and confident – Also a word “diva” wide receivers

There’s this awesome parody account of presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s VP pick Paul Ryan on twitter and all the tweets start out with “hey girl.” I think it’s so hilarious and have been dying to use it in the title of post. And lo and behold GQ magazine gave me a perfect excuse to do it when they posted pics of the cute caramel quarterback Cam Newton! Now yall know...

Is Andrew Luck already better than Cam Newton?

Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck made his NFL debut with the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday and looked impressive while doing so. In the team’s first preseason game of the 2012 season, Luck tossed two touchdowns and nearly had a third. Like his predecessor in Indianapolis, Andrew Luck’s first pass in the NFL went for a touchdown. [...]

The POGS: Carolina Edition

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In the first pre-season game of the Texans’ 2012 football season, they overwhelmed a Carolina Panthers team that have high hopes heading into this year. Although there were mistakes made by the Texans, it was a strong performance by the reigning AFC South Champs. Pre-season games are typically used to get your starters in a rhythm but more importantly a way...
