What else should we expect from the Cleveland Browns?  We all knew that they weren’t going to be good this year with the 40 year old sophomore quarterback, but if they could have finished out the season with a bad record and drafted a good quarterback, they would have been contenders in the AFC North in a couple years.  But the Browns front office had vastly different things in mind. They instead decided to trade away the cornerstone of their franchise, Trent Richardson, for the Colts first round draft pick.  No I am not talking about the Jaguars or the Titans first round pick, the Colts.  The Colts are contenders.  I personally guarntee you that Trent Richardson will be better than whoever they draft in the middle to late stages of the first round next year.  So many teams would like to have a Trent Richardson on their team but not the Browns for some reason.  The only logical explanation for this is…well…there isn’t one.  This has the making to go down as the worst trade in NFL history. I have always said that if you were not Super Bowl contenders, than you should try to go 0-16 and draft high.  But after years and years of 1st round picks, the Browns simply cannot make a winner.  And even under that logic, with Richardson, the Browns likely would have had a high draft pick anyway.  With as bad as they have looked over the first two weeks, it could have been a dog fight to the end with Jacksonville for the #1 pick in the draft.  Could you imagine a backfield of Teddy Bridgewater and Trent Richardson?  That sounds like a solid foundation for a team. Or even a defense with Joe Haden and Jadeveon Clowney in it?  That would be two outstanding players as the anchors of your defense! The Browns have thrown in the towel on the season and that is obvious.  But lets look at the Colts situation.  The Colts just got a good running back to replace the injured Vick Ballard.  In fact, they vastly improved their backfield.  Luck was the #1 pick in the 2012 draft while Richardson was the #3 pick.  So if you want to look at it from that perspective, the Browns just traded a 3rd overall pick for a mid to late 1st round pick in 2014. But hey, lets face it, no one is happier right now than Trent Richardson.  He went from a horrible team to a playoff team.  I suspect this is what Trent Richardson looked like after he got the news… This trade makes me sick.  It seems like a trade that you would make in Madden and just force the computer to accept it.  If I didnt know any better, I would think that Colts GM, Bill Polian, had some dirt on Browns GM, Michael Lombardi, and forced him to accept the trade.  But hey, that the great thing about this, I don’t know any better so we can all speculate.  I hope, and halfway expect, Browns fans to revolt against management over the next couple weeks.  Maybe even stage a walk-out like Pirates fans were accustomed to doing. Oh, and I am sure the guy who asked for Browns players to lay him into the ground when he died so they could “Let him down one more time” is rolling over in his grave right now.  Poor guy. Ugh.
