Tampa Bay has been linked to Jets CB Darrelle Revis for some time now, but according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Buccaneers could be losing interest in a trade for the Pro Bowl cornerback. Florio reports that the Buccaneers have been talking with free agent CB Brent Grimes. Florio adds that “if/when the Buccaneers land the Falcons’ 2012 franchise player, the Bucs will be out of the Revis business.“ Rick Stroud reported last night that Tampa Bay is willing to consider the idea of adding their No. 13 overall to trade for Revis, but adds that a deal is unlikely to be reached at any point in the near future. Previous reports have indicated that the Bucs are willing to include either a 2013 second-round pick or their 2014 first-round selection for Revis. Assuming that this report is accurate, it would be a pretty serious concession from the Buccaneers that could speed up trade talks for Revis. Revis comes with some major concerns beyond the trade compensation. He’s coming off of a major knee injury and will have to be locked up to a large deal before a trade is agreed to given that he would hold all the leverage in negotiations if they waited until after the trade was completed. While he’s clearly one of the best defensive backs in the game, it might make more sense for them to target cheaper options like Grimes in free agency and keep their draft picks to round out their roster.
