The Buccaneers had running back LeGarrette Blount on the trade block for quite a while. Entering the draft, talk around the league and several media circles of a potential Blount trade started to pick back up. During the final day of the draft, Tampa Bay sent Blount to New England. Blount saw his role diminish greatly after the Bucs drafted running back Doug Martin in the first round last year. After rushing for 1,788 his first two seasons, Blount only recorded 151 yards on 41 carries. In return, the Patriots sent the Bucs their seventh round pick and running back Jeff Demps — who wanted to to focus on track this offseason. Let’s not forget the draft picks the Buccaneers made. Here are those players with draft profiles. Akeem Spence, DT, Illinois NFL.com: Spence has a good build and displays a strong set of hands. He’s a physical tackler, and will make tackles all around the line of scrimmage. However, he needs to improve how he comes off the ball, and needs to make better use of the power in his upper and lower body. He should be a mid-round selection as a 4-3 nose tackle. William Gholston, DE, Michigan St. Scout.com: Has an exceptional frame and athleticism to go along with it. Runs very well and shows a great motor as he pursues from sideline to sideline. Is great in space and has good feet and change of direction. Has played mostly off the line as a linebacker, so he will have to learn to play with his hand down in college. Pass rushing has consisted mostly of blitzes and will have to learn pass rush moves and improve at disengaging from blockers. Steven Means, DE, Buffalo NFL.com: Played defensive end for the Bulls, but translates to outside linebacker in the NFL. A disruptive force as an edge rusher, Means had 6.5 sacks in 2012, 2.5 sacks in 2011, 4.5 sacks in 2010 and a team-high five sacks as a redshirt freshman in 2009. Mike James, RB, Miami(FL) NFL.com: James has displayed great versatility throughout his career as a Hurricane. Has had success with different running concepts. He has a good build, runs hard, blocks well, and has shown a willingness to play, and contribute on a special teams unit. While he lacks elite athletic tools, he looks like a very solid running back who will make a roster, and possibly contribute much more as a Day 3 pick.
