PLAYERS: E.J. Manuel
TEAMS: Buffalo Bills
The Bills struggled to stop the deep ball against the Jets Sunday The Buffalo Bills can’t seem to figure out how to win in the AFC East, losing to the division rival New York Jets. Nothing seemed to go right in this game for Buffalo. The final score is misleading. The game wasn’t as close as the 27-20 final score indicated. As you may have forgotten due to his great play in the first weeks, E.J. Manuel is in fact a rookie. He definitely showed his colors this weekend. Manuel has been great at using his legs to avoid getting sacked in the first two weeks, but this week was a whole different story. Manuel was sacked 8 times by the Jets defense. The offensive line was absolutely terrible. When Manuel wasn’t getting sacked, he was lobbing up fade passes to receivers. I don’t think he completed a single one of them. I have been criticizing Manuel for constantly checking the ball down in recent weeks and now I am eating my own words. I would have been happy for him to check it down instead of putting the ball up for grabs. His accuracy was horrible. You can tell the Jets pass rush got into his head. On 3rd downs Rex Ryan threw everything including the kitchen sink at Manuel and he struggled to make the right decision. C.J. Spiller had another rough outing. Spiller was only able to rush for 9 yards on 10 attempts, much to the dismay of his fantasy owners (like myself). He just could not get anything going. So many times he tried to get around the corner but just couldn’t get passed the rushing linebackers. Did I mention that the offensive line was horrible? Defensively, Buffalo again struggled to stop the run. Bilal Powell rushed for 149 yards on 27 attempts. Who in the world is Bilal Powell and why did he look like Adrian Peterson this week? Buffalo could not get this man down on first contact. Powell was running through people like Bo Jackson in Techmo Bowl. Buffalo’s secondary took another blow this week. Cornerback Leodis McKelvin went down with a hamstring on the second play of the game, forcing yet another back-up to play big minutes. In case you forgot, Buffalo’s secondary is already severely depleted with injuries to Stephon Gilmore and Jerious Byrd. With McKelvin going down, Justin Rogers was forced to cover Jets receiver Santonio Holmes. I use the word cover very loosely. Jets quarterback Geno Smith picked on this young man all game. The two long touchdown passes both happened on Rogers’ watch. The MVP for the Bills was wearing a striped uniform. The only reason the Bills were even remotely in this game was because of penalties. The Jets came close to setting the NFL record for penalties in a game with 20 for 168 yards (the record is 22). If the Jets didn’t keep shooting themselves in the foot, I don’t see how this game isn’t a complete blow out. To the Jets credit, they absolutely out played the Bills. I was riding high after the amazing win against the Panthers last week, and this week I have crash landed back to reality. If Buffalo’s secondary can’t keep quarterbacks under 300 yards, it’s going to be a long season. Hopefully next week we can get back to winning. (Checking who we are playing…) Baltimore at home. Not looking good.

The Bills game is crucial today if they want a shot at the playoffs

If the Buffalo Bills want to snap that playoff drought this year, they need a win today in New Jersey against the JETS. EJ Manuel will be going up against Geno Smith (the so called best quarterback in the draft). So far after two games EJ has looked amazing leading the Bills on a fourth […]

C.J. Spiller says he twisted his knee, he should be good to go against the Ravens

If you have C.J. Spiller in Fantasy Football and were upset as all get out after his 10 carry performance for 9 yards yesterday, I would like to let you know he was injured.  He went to the locker room around the 3rd quarter walking with trainers.  He had his right knee taped up with […]

Spiller vows to play Sunday vs. Ravens

Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller is vowing to take the field Sunday when they take on the Baltimore Ravens, but it'll probably not be his call. As it stands right now, he could be a game-time decision. He's scheduled to get treatment this week and test out his leg at Wednesday's practice...

According to my sources The Buffalo Bills are signing defensive tackle Jay Ross. Jay will be taking the place of Alex Carrington who was injured in Sunday’s game and told he will miss the rest of the season. Ross has been in the league since 2010 when he was signed as an undrafted free agent […]

Bills' McKelvin out with hamstring injury

McKelvin went down twice during the Jets' opening drive in the first quarter Sunday, grabbing at his right hamstring each time. After the second, he slammed his helmet to the ground as he walked to the sideline. McKelvin was examined by trainers, and then...

C.J. Spiller Not Expected To Return

Bills running back C.J. Spiller will not return to Sunday's game due to a knee injury.Fantasy Spin:This adds injury to insult for fantasy owners, as Spiller had 10 total yards on 11 touches (10 carries, one catch) before leaving the game. He has not lived up to lofty expectations through three games.

Bills place DE Carrington on season-ending IR

The Buffalo Bills have placed Alex Carrington on season-ending injured reserve after the starting defensive end tore his left quadriceps. The move was made on Monday, a day after he was hurt in the fourth quarter of a 27-20 loss to the New York Jets. Carrington was attempting to fight off a block when another player rolled up the back of his leg during Bilal Powell's 3-yard...

Bills RB Spiller expects to play after hurting leg

Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller doesn't expect an injury to his right leg to keep him from playing against the Baltimore Ravens this weekend. Though still experiencing some soreness, Spiller walked without a limp on Monday. He anticipates he should ''be good'' to play Sunday, when Buffalo (1-2) hosts Baltimore (2-1). Spiller was hurt a day earlier on...

C.J. Spiller Should Be Fine For Week 4

Bills running back C.J. Spiller should be fine for next Sunday, according to coach Doug Marrone.Fantasy Spin:He suffered a quad injury after an ugly first half in which he rushed for just nine yards. It’s Over Before It Starts

I find coach and player interviews to be the least interesting aspect of sports journalism. Candor between athletes and the media is dead and gone, as prospective stars are trained from an extremely young age to speak in generalities and cliches rather than provide any actual insight into their psyche. In turn, many journalist’s ability to pry blood from a stone has atrophied,...

Ducks in the NFL: Alonso stars, Jordan rules, Blount packs a punch

Kiko Alonso had 8 crunching tackles, a pass deflection and an interception in Buffalo's 27-20 loss to the Jets-Jets-Jets. He returned the pick 32 yards. Alonso was the first Bills rookie to have interceptions in back-to-back games since former Duck Jairus Byrd did it in 2010. Last week he picked off Cam Newton. Whale of a play: Kiko Alonso returns a second quarter interception...
