PLAYERS: C.J. Spiller
TEAMS: Buffalo Bills

Undrafted rookie Jeff Tuel may be forced to start for the Bills Sunday This Sunday, the 3-5 Buffalo Bills host the only undefeated team left in the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs. The game will be kicking off at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on CBS (DIERDORF!!!!). Let’s gander at some key points for Sunday, shall we? Quarterback: The Bills quarterback situation has been one of a lot of question marks all season. According to the Buffalo Bills official website, the starting quarterback for Sunday has not been named. Last week against the Saints, Thad Lewis took a brutal shot to the ribs that led to him not practicing until Friday. He is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he gives it a go. Lewis showed last week that he is tough guy, taking some brutal shots from the Saints defense and keeping his poise in the pocket. If Lewis doesn’t play, it will leave the quarterbacking duties to rookie Jeff Tuel. Tuel played terribly in the few quarters that he played following E.J. Manuel’s injury in Week 5. So bad in fact that they took Thad Lewis off the practice squad so they didn’t have to play Tuel. Never a good sign when a practice squad player looks like a better option than the backup. Regardless of who is playing quarterback, the Bills’ game plan is going to look a little different than it has all season. The Bills have been running the option, utilizing their mobile quarterback and running back tandem of C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson. I don’t see that being used this week. Tuel is not mobile so he will not be a threat to keep it on the option, and if Lewis starts, Coach Doug Marrone probably isn’t going to put Lewis in a situation that could further injure his ribs. Running Game: Fred Jackson has been held in check in recent week, not rushing for over 50 yards in his last 3 games. Good news for him, he will have his partner in crime back after missing last week’s game. C.J. Spiller was limited in practice all week but is listed as probable for Sunday. Buffalo is going to need these two against this stingy Kansas City defense. The Chiefs are ranked 12th in the NFL in total yards, and has not yet allowed a team to score over 17 points. With the possibility of Jeff Tuel starting, the run game is going to be vital for the Bills to move the ball down the field. Defense: The Bills’ front-7 are going to have to continue their great play. Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has the ability to escape the pocket, so Mario Williams and company are going to have to stay disciplined and not allow him to break off runs. Buffalo is also going to have their hands full in the running game. The Bills have struggled mightily to defend the run so far this season. With Jamaal Charles coming to town, Buffalo needs to step up and stop the run. Charles is 2nd in the league in yards per game, and is one of the more elusive backs that the league has to offer. The Bills need to get their hands on the slippery Charles and bring him down of first contact. As far as the secondary is concerned, Buffalo actually has a pretty good match-up. Alex Smith isn’t exactly known as a quarterback that can pick apart a defense with his arm. Smith is more of a game manager. One thing that Buffalo needs to do is make him make mistakes. Smith has been pretty good about taking care of the ball this season, only throwing 3 picks on the year. Buffalo is 2nd in the league when it comes to interceptions. The Bills need to force turnovers and keep the Kansas City offense off the field. Prediction: Vegas has the Chiefs favored by 4 points. It’s a little strange that the league’s only undefeated team is only favored by 4 against a team that may be starting Jeff Tuel isn’t it? The reason? In my opinion, Kansas City isn’t that good. They have had the luck of playing a really weak schedule. The only team they have played with a .500 record is the Dallas Cowboys. I’m predicting that their luck runs out this week at a sold out Ralph Wilson Stadium. Bills 20, Chiefs 17.

Week 9 Fantasy Football Weekend Injury Report: CJ Spiller

It appears that Buffalo Bills RB C.J. Spiller will suit up for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he is still technically considered a game time decision despite the fact that he was listed as full participant in practice on Friday and is listed as probable. Injury Outlook: Spiller has gone through this song and dance before, attempting to play through a high...

Bills' Thad Lewis expected to start despite rib injury, flu

Buffalo Bills quarterback thad Lewis will take the helm once again, hoping a much better outing than his three previous starts that saw him on the ground very often. But that may be wishful thinking, seeing who they're facing this week. Buffalo Bills will knock off undefeated Chiefs

The Buffalo Bills (3-5) host the Kansas City Chiefs (8-0) in Week 9 of the 2013 NFL season. For Buffalo, this game is about staying in the AFC playoff picture. There’s is a dim, distant footing in the race with many similarly placed teams standing in their way, but anything is possible with eight games left to play. The Chiefs meanwhile look to continue to prove everyone wrong...

E.J. Manuel is not capable of helping the 2013 Buffalo Bills

Hobbled Buffalo Bills quarterback E.J. Manuel will not play Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs visit Orchard Park. The 23-year-old Manuel suffered a sprained right LCL on October 3 in a 37-24 loss to the Browns (3-2) in Cleveland. With the immortal Thad Lewis listed as doubtful, Buffalo will likely use Jeff Tuel or Matt Flynn versus the Chiefs. Selected out of Florida State with...

Injured Bills QB Lewis misses another practice

Bills quarterback Thad Lewis missed his second straight practice on Thursday and remains questionable for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Bills coach Doug Marrone reiterated Lewis has a ''50-50'' chance of playing after bruising his ribs in Sunday's loss to New Orleans. Buffalo Bills: 2013 Week 9 NFL Power Rankings (#26)

Last week: 24 (-2) Record: 3-5 There’s no shame in getting blown in New Orleans, where the Saints have won and covered in their last 13 instances under Sean Payton. The Bills haven’t been the same team on the road this season as they have been at home, where they’ve beaten a pair of top-15 teams on these Power Rankings (Carolina, Baltimore) and almost beat another pair of top...

Beyond the stats: The Buffalo Bills midseason awards

The Bills have reached the halfway mark of the season and it’s time to dole out some fake midseason awards. The team has shown improvement over their past years at times, but their record isn’t much improved. Luckily for them, the schedule in the second half looks to be easier than the first, which could allow them to finish the season with a record better than their current...

Tuel is Bills’ likely starter against a menacing Chiefs defense

Protecting the passer – whomever it may be – is a top priority for the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. The Bills face a Kansas City Chiefs team that ranks No. 1 in the NFL in fewest points allowed and in quarterback sacks. The timing of the matchup for Buffalo is less than ideal, to grossly understate the situation. There’s a good chance the Bills will be starting their third different...

Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills: 2013 Week 9 NFL Pick

Kansas City Chiefs (8-0) at Buffalo Bills (3-5) Damnit. I was so ready to pick an upset here for Buffalo. Buffalo is better than their record, especially at home. In 4 home games, they’ve beaten a pair of top-15 teams on these Power Rankings (Carolina, Baltimore) and almost beat another pair of top-10 teams (New England, Cincinnati). I don’t think the Chiefs are significantly...

Getting Defensive: Is the Bills Pass Rush Elite?

Mario is super againLast summer when the Bills out bid all other teams for the services of Mario Williams, it looked like Buffalo had added an elite pass rusher and bolstered a stale defensive front. The massive deal included $50 million in guaranteed money and could gross up to $100 million over six years. It was the largest deal ever for a defensive player and while it raised some...
