It was a game the Philadelphia Eagles should have easily won. On paper they were clearly better than the Cleveland Browns, but as we all know the game is not played on paper. After making numerous mistakes throughout the game, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick made a big play at the end of the game to secure a 17-16 win over the Browns as the Eagles start the season with a 1-0 record.

We expected to see the offense slow to get started in this game. However, we did not expect it to take the final drive of each half for the offense to flash its talent. The offensive line had trouble protecting Vick while Vick had trouble protecting the football. Despite the Browns defense mixing up its coverage with blitzes on Vick, he still threw numerous passes into double and even triple coverage throughout the game.

Vick went 29-56 for 317 yards while throwing two touchdowns and four interceptions. With the game tied at three as the first half was winding to a close, the Eagles finally had a drive going and threatened to score a touchdown. A beautifully placed pass from Vick to Maclin along the near sideline put the Eagles in field goal range, but the team was looking for a touchdown. With 17 seconds left in the first half, Vick found Maclin once again for an eighteen yard touchdown pass.

In the second half, the Eagles failed to put points on the board, while the Browns found ways to hang in the game. With the score 10-9, Vick threw his fourth interception of the game as D'Qwell Jackson took the intercepted pass 27 yards for a touchdown and a Cleveland lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Finally, with the clock working against the Eagles and a possession beginning at their own nine-yard line, Vick led the Eagles down the field for one final drive which cumulated in a four-yard touchdown pass to tight end Clay Harbor on third and goal with just over a minute to play in the game. Brandon Weeden, playing in his first NFL game, threw his fourth interception of the game on the ensuing drive as Kurt Coleman sealed the victory for the Eagles with the interception.

LeSean McCoy had 20 rushes for 110 yards and one fumble lost. Jeremy Maclin had seven receptions for 96 yards and one touchdown while DeSean Jackson, Brent Celek, and Jason Avant each had four receptions.

The Eagles return home and will face the Baltimore Ravens next Sunday.

Maclin In and Out of Lineup Sunday

Eagles receiver Jeremy Maclin was in and out of the game Sunday due to several ailments but he still managed to catch seven passes for 96 yards and a touchdown.Fantasy Spin:Maclin went to the locker room with a hip injury in the first half and then exited in the third quarter to get an IV. Still, he turned in a nice fantasy day and is a good bet to post his first 1,000-yard season in 2012.

Eagles Week 1: The Good vs. The Bad

The Good The Eagles are 1-0. No one got hurt. LeSean McCoy proved once again that he’s an elite running back. The defense allowed just 16 points, but they were playing the Cleveland Browns, with a rookie quarterback who threw for 188 yards. Philadelphia should have held the Browns to a low output offensively. Even though it is somewhat good, it is more so expected. The Bad This...

Trent Richardson trucks Kurt Coleman, sends helmet flying

In Sunday's Eagles-Browns game, Browns rookie running back Trent Richardson absolutely demolished Eagles safety Kurt Coleman. Richardson lowered his head and smashed it directly into Coleman's head, sending the defensive back's helmet flying as Richardson picked up nine yards on the play. He'd be stopped behind the line on the next play, and the Browns would...

Are the Eagles the ‘Redeem’ team in 2012?

The Dallas Cowboys impressive win against the New York Giants on Wednesday night 24-17, has officially made the NFC East wide open and the Philadelphia Eagles have a shot this season to be the next ‘Redeem’ team in 2012. Now it’s foolish to compare the 2012 Eagles to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Basketball team, but [...]

It was ugly…

But 1-0 is a lot better than 0-1. Just ask Giants fans. And actually, Eagles at Browns wasn’t universally a mess. But we’ll get to that in a minute. This week’s stud honors are shared by two guys:: DRC and Kurt Coleman, each of whom came down with two picks. On a day when the offense needed the defense to carry them, the D delivered. Big time. OK, sure, it was against...
