Cam Heyward Excited for 2024, Likes Steelers Offseason Moves

“Only time will tell,” he said. “I don’t want to walk before we crawl. The main thing is just trying to be better. I think the changes that have come about will help and will continue to keep helping. I’m excited about what we have going and coming up.”

Heyward hosted an episode of his Not Just Football Podcast with four of the team’s newest draft picks, offensive linemen Troy Fautanu and Zach Frazier, receiver Roman Wilson and linebacker Payton Wilson.

“All great guys,” Hayward said. “It’s really cool to see how hungry they are. How excited they are. But they don’t know what they’re getting themselves into. It’s gonna be fun to get reacquainted and once we get to training camp, go full tilt.”

Frazier, in particular, might get a healthy dose of Heyward at training camp this summer, with the veteran defensive tackle lining up over the interior of the first-team offensive line.

“You look for that mettle to happen, iron sharpening iron,” Heyward said. “If we can get to work in practice, it’s going to make us better in the games.”

NOT SLOWING DOWN

Cam Heyward was born in Pittsburgh, and though he grew up in the Atlanta area, he has always considered Pittsburgh to be a part of his home. He’s also made sure to make giving back to that community a big part of his presence here as a pro.

For those efforts, Heyward won the 2023 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which is something of a lifetime achievement when it comes to community service and on-field excellence.

But with the award in possession, Heyward isn’t planning on slowing down in terms of his commitment to giving back. Last weekend, while the Steelers rookies were at minicamp at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, Heyward and his family were partnering with Little Caesars Love Kitchen, which donates food to communities in need all over the country.

“There’s just a responsibility there,” Heyward said. “It’s cool to win an award, but being back in the community, that’s the bread and butter. Partnering with Little Caesars and having a relationship like this where we can kill two birds with one stone and give back, I think that’s … I can’t pass that up.”
