The Victory Formation:
Colin Kaepernick never had it so good. While the San Francisco QB took a lashing a week ago because he wore a hat from another team, in another conference, another NFL QB admitted to his allegiance to a team from within his own division. Cam Newton, the face of the Carolina Panthers franchise, admitted in an interview with the Atlanta-Journal Constitution that he is still a fan of his hometown team: “It’s always a heavily critiqued game,” Newton replied. “I’ve always been a Falcons fan, and I’m still a Falcons fan except for those two times a year.” Look, this isn’t the first time an athlete said something like this. Victor Cruz, the Giants star wide receiver, admitted at one point to be a Cowboys fan while growing up, and he lived in Paterson, NJ. I think it must be an odd for football players who were fans of certain teams to just stop liking them because they were drafted by another team. Hell, this happens in college when guys grow up Michigan fans, but end up at Ohio State and vice-versa. But fans won’t look at it that way and probably give Cam a hard time for being honest. [...]
BEST OF MAXIM
Victor Cruz sent a controversial tweet after the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial was announced, and he later deleted the tweet.
NFL Wide Receivers are divas. This has never failed to cease. It’s a perpetual cycle of whining and complaining and feeling disrespected. The names of the players whining change from year to year, but the most vocal are always wide receivers. Usually the ******** starts right before the diva starts negotiation a new contract. Usually. Insert Victor Cruz. He’s taken the diva act...
You are born and shortly thereafter you pick your team -- Broncos, 76ers, Cardinals, whatever -- and you stick with that team for life, no matter what, and we say there is nobility in that.
So Cam Newton grew up an Atlanta Falcons fan and then he got so good at football that he got to play in the NFL but -- uh oh -- the Falcons didn't draft him and the Carolina Panthers did...
When the not guilty verdict was read for George Zimmerman in his murder trial there was one thing that could be counted on to happen next--people would be outraged. Many wasted no time taking to one social media channel or another to voice their opinions.
New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was one of those people. His tweet held a pretty grim prediction for what could...
Atlanta native and Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton admitted that he still cheers for the Falcons when his team isn’t playing them.
“It’s always a heavily critiqued game,” Newton said of the Falcons-Panthers divisional matchup, via NFL.com. “I’ve always been a Falcons fan, and I’m still a Falcons fan except for those two times a year.”
I’m sure Panther...
The interwebs, and specifically Twitter just absolutely blew up tonight after the verdict in the George Zimmerman/Trayvon Martin trial was released. Zimmerman was found not guilty on all charges which created quite the uproar. While not surprising to me, because... well... Florida.... apparently a lot of folks were shocked by the outcome and understandably upset.
Victor Cruz of...
New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz has apologized for a message he sent on Twitter in the wake of the verdict in the George Zimmerman trial.
Cruz sent a series of tweets Sunday calling his message from a night earlier a ''mistake,'' adding that he ''never will advocate violence under any circumstances.'' The original message has since been...
The New York Giants finally got their man, when they signed star wide receiver Victor Cruz to a six-year almost $45 million extension.
That’s pretty good money, but Cruz knows he left some money on the table, and as he told Sirius XM radio, he knows “he took less than he deserves.”
“I’m not going to lie, it’s tough. It’s tough. When you understand from a numbers standpoint...
Victor Cruz and the New York Giants are happy to have gotten the 26-year-old’s contract situation squared away, but that does not mean he feels he was compensated fairly. Once a player signs on the dotted line, he no longer has a right to complain. No one forced Cruz to sign a five-year, $43 million [...]
Victor Cruz last week signed off on a five-year contract extension worth $43 million. Looking back, the 26-year-old sees what some of the NFL’s higher-paid receivers are making and says his new deal does not measure up.
“I’m not going to say it’s easy when you see guys getting these huge paydays and you feel like you’re at the same caliber, if not better than some of those...
Tweet Victor Cruz, who has gained much popularity in a short period of time as a receiver for the New York Giants, recently signed a six-year contract worth upwards of $45 million –$15.6 million guaranteed — to stay with the Giants. Apparently Cruz believes he should have gotten more, per some comments he recently made [...]
Cam Newton, the Falcons fan? (AP Photo)
As any football fan out there will tell you, it’s hard to stop rooting for your childhood team. Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is no different.
A native of Savannah, Georgia, Newton rooted for the nearby Atlanta Falcons growing up. Newton’s teenage years occurred during an extremely exciting time in Atlanta when Michael Vick was...
Over the weekend, New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz tweeted that the “hood” will catch up to George Zimmerman after he was found innocent after killing 17 year-old Trayvon Martin last year.
Cruz ended up deleting the tweet right away and then he issued an apology.
Today Cruz made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show and explained why he posted the tweet, via Black Sports...
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick caused quite the stir earlier this month when he was seen rocking a Miami Dolphins hat and later mocked fans for having an issue with it. Now, Cam Newton is sure to have infuriated Carolina Panthers fans with his own show of affection for an opposing NFL team. Newton, [...]
