Colin Kaepernick never had it so good. While the San Francisco QB took a lashing a week ago because he wore a hat from another team, in another conference, another NFL QB admitted to his allegiance to a team from within his own division. Cam Newton, the face of the Carolina Panthers franchise, admitted in an interview with the Atlanta-Journal Constitution that he is still a fan of his hometown team: “It’s always a heavily critiqued game,” Newton replied. “I’ve always been a Falcons fan, and I’m still a Falcons fan except for those two times a year.” Look, this isn’t the first time an athlete said something like this. Victor Cruz, the Giants star wide receiver, admitted at one point to be a Cowboys fan while growing up, and he lived in Paterson, NJ. I think it must be an odd for football players who were fans of certain teams to just stop liking them because they were drafted by another team. Hell, this happens in college when guys grow up Michigan fans, but end up at Ohio State and vice-versa. But fans won’t look at it that way and probably give Cam a hard time for being honest. [...]
