Throughout the draft, Miami had many solid and controversial picks, but I believe based on the round selected and talent that Arthur Lynch might be one of the best pickups the Dolphins were able to take. We took Lynch in the 5th round, and for the 155th pick overall, he was a steal in my opinion. Lynch was rated the #6 best tight end in the draft, and I think he showed signs of being in the top 5 based on overall performance. Lynch is a 6’5”, 258 pounder with a large, bulky frame that has great hands and is a sure red zone target, something that Tannehill was lacking last season. I expect him to take Dion Sims’s spot as the #2 tight end for the squad by the start of the regular season, and this will put Lynch in a solid position to account for probably around 3-5 TDs for the season. Lynch played in 11 out of 12 games last season, and had 30 receptions for 459 yards and tacked on 5 TDs. With Miami, I expect his upside to be larger than what he had at UGA because Miami doesn’t have the receiving core of the same big-play caliber that QB Aaron Murray had to throw to last season. Tannehill proved to be a very tight-end dependent QB and allowed for Charles Clay to really come into his own as a top 12 tight end in the league last season. I expect Lynch to follow suit and blossom as a solid tight end in the league with Tannehill running the offense. Lynch definitely has his offseason work cut out for him when it comes to running routes better and developing himself as a potential deep ball tight end when needed (wasn’t impressive at the combine with a 40 yard dash of only a 4.82). At the very least, Lynch needs to be able to run an occasional seam and beat a linebacker or defensive end that drops into coverage over the top and demand the attention of a defensive back. I strongly foresee Arthur Lynch being very successful in the NFL and hopefully a valuable asset to the Miami Dolphins organization; a tight end that can block well and compliment Charles Clay in some double tight end formations is exactly what the Fins needed, and I think they will be very excited to see that Lynch can be just the guy to fill the need.
