Found March 01, 2013 on SteelBlitz Steelers Blog:
There has been a lot of talk about whether or not the Steelers can get their run game back on track next season. In 2012 the Steelers rushed the ball for a total of 1537 yards. That is their worst total since the dreaded 2003 season when the Steelers turned the offense over to Tommy Maddox and the passing game. During that 2003 seasons the Steelers amassed only 1488 rushing yards and were tied for last in the league in yards per attempt. What’s also a bit alarming is the correlation between the run game and the Steelers success in a given season. In 2003 they ranked sixteenth in the league in terms of total rushing attempts. As mention above they also struggled gaining yards and they finished the season with a 6-10 record. That season will be out starting point and it is also tied for the Steelers second worst record since 1988. That off-season the Steelers drafted Ben Roethlisberger and for the next two seasons the Steelers led the league in rushing attempts. During the 2004 and ...

  • The issue is Ben wants to be the Hero and he tries to do too much. Ben doesn't want to Manage the game,he wants to be the star of if it even if it takes them out of scoring position. Ben needs to evolve into a Professional QB and not a Sandlot QB. It's great that he can extend plays but he has to be enough of a leader to know 3 points is better than 0.

Now The Running, Mike Tomlin need to pick his starting running back and as he use to say "Run Him Until The Wheels Come Off". Thats what they did with Willie Parker & Mewelde Moore and thats what they need to do with Dwyer,BAtch or whom ever they draft. They need to have sub packages in the Todd Hayle offense and use them effectively. Having a new zone Scheme mixed with some bread & butter power runs should get the running game back on track. However, Tomlin needs to stick with the running game & Ben needs to not check out of them so he can be the hero.

Drafting Tavon Austin Fixes several needs for The Steelers.

1 Replaces Wallaces speed to take the top off a Defense
2 Adds a playmaker punt returner/Kick returner to team with or replace Brown
3 The Next Randle El for reverses/trick plays
4 Outside zone runner from the RB position in our new scheme
5 Allows them to go 4- 5 wide and still have a shifty RB on the field

Team Austin up with La'von Bell,Johnathan Franklin,or Niles Davis and The Steelers could be have a dynamic Running Game.

Re-Structure? Woodley Should Offer a Pay Cut

Following in the foot-steps of Antonio Brown, Ben Roethlisberger and Lawrence Timmons, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley will reportedly also re-structure his contract this week or next. For those of you keeping score at home, the re-structuring of a players’ contract is not a pay cut. It’s actually a way to convert salary money into signing bonus money. This reduces...

No Cameras as Roethlisberger Addresses “Locker Room Issues”

I’m going to be blunt here. I don’t agree with Ben Roethlisberger’s statements yesterday made to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ed Bouchette. Roethlisberger claims the locker room is fine and that recent comments made by a number of current players and a former one are out of “frustration” over an 8-8 season. Frustration is often the result of  much more though and that’s...

With the NFL Scouting Combine done, where do the Pittsburgh Steelers go now?

By Clarence Tunstall There was the usual assortment of surprises, disappointments, risers, and fallers at the combine. The best grade goes to the big guys and not too soon for the Steelers. How can we blow this one? Well, we could believe T’eo’s poor workout was as insignificant as they say and eye him. You could allow the bias of the talking heads of Pittsburgh to influence...

Ben Roethlisberger on Steelers: ‘There are no issues on our team’

The Pittsburgh Steelers struggled through a disappointing 8-8 season last year, which is quite uncharacteristic for one of the NFL’s most successful franchises. As if the team did not already have enough issues to work through in order to get back to the playoffs next season, the coaches and players have also had to deal with anonymous teammates ripping one another. Last week,...

Steelers Restructure Ben Roethlisberger’s Contract To Free Up Cap Space

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports that the Steelers have restructured QB Ben Roethlisberger‘s contract on Thursday. Bouchette adds that this will free up an extra $6 million in cap space for the 2013 season. Roethlisberger had a staggering cap figure of $19.595 million, so it makes sense that they would try to get that down to a more manageable number. So far...

History Says Steelers Unlikely To Draft A Safety In First Round

Many draftniks, including myself, consider Texas safety Kenny Vaccaro to be the top safety in the upcoming 2013 NFL draft. I will save my full breakdown of Vaccaro for a later post, but should the Pittsburgh Steelers wind up selecting him, or any other top safety for that matter, in the first round, it would be only the second time in the Super Bowl era, and maybe in the entire history...
