Found January 18, 2013 on Football Extra Points:
PLAYERS: Joe Flacco
TEAMS: Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens won last week, but they needed some big plays and luck.  They will need a lot more luck to win this weekend in New England. The Divisional round delivered some of the best football of the season.  Having the elite quarterbacks on the field definitely helped. This weekend we have a final four that should deliver more exciting football.  This is why the NFL is the most popular sport. I previewed the Championship games on my radio show.  Here is my preview and picks. AFC - Baltimore and New England This is a rematch of last years Championship game.  Baltimore blew chances to win and tie the game last year.  Will they be able to play 60 minutes this season? The Ravens won last week with big plays on offense.  I still do not buy Flacco as an elite QB.  He has a big arm but I still have not seen enough to think he has enough to win a Super Bowl.   On Offense the Ravens need to establish Ray Rice running the ball.  They also have to put t...

Joe Flacco: Can’t win with him, without him?

The Baltimore Ravens will find themselves in a dilemma at the end of the season; what to do with quarterback Joe Flacco? Flacco is in a contract year and will surely command big money if the Ravens decide the re-sign him. The problem is that whether or not Flacco is the future of the Ravens and deserves a big contract is easily debatable. At 6-6, 245 lbs, Joe Flacco has ideal stature...

Baltimore Ravens: Five Reasons They Will Lose the AFC Title Game

I remember it like it was yesterday. With 1:44 left on the clock, Joe Flacco drove his Ravens down the field with methodical purpose-- 2nd-and-1 from the 14, he promptly hit Lee Evens right in the hands for the apparent go-ahead touchdown. Knocked away by Sterling Moore. We all know what happened after that. Billy Cundiff's shanked 32-yard field goal crushed the Ravens'...

Flacco engineers 87-yard drive, Ravens take lead

The Ravens have had several drives halted by the Patriots defense. This last drive wasn’t one of them. Joe Flacco passed nine of 10 plays on the drive and the Ravens took the lead with a 5-yard completion to Dennis Pitta. The Ravens now lead 14-13 in the third quarter.

Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots: AFC Conference Championship

I’ve gone back and forth on this one. On one hand, some of the reasons I didn’t like the Patriots last week are still true. They’re still a terrible post-season spread team, going 2-7 ATS in their last 9 post-season games and 4-8 ATS all-time as favorites of more than 4 in the post-season. Last year, they were favored by a similar amount in a similar situation here against...

Patriots expect plenty of downfield shots from Ravens' offense

The New England Patriots' defensive backs will earn their paychecks Sunday.New England will be up against one of the NFL's most prolific downfield passing attacks in the Baltimore Ravens, who the Patriots will host in the AFC Championship game. “It is a big job this week to try and prevent that deep ball," Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib said Wednesday, via Patriots...

Round Table: Key to the Game

What is your key to the game for the AFC Championship? Stephen:  The key to making it back to the Super Bowl will be preventing big plays. Joe Flacco played a great game in the 2012 AFC Championship, but his team came up short thanks to Billy Cundiff. Flacco shredded the Broncos last week and is out to prove he's elite. The Patriots must limit the big plays from Jacoby Jones...

Can Flacco outplay Brady again?

Plain and simple, Tom Brady needs to outplay Joe Flacco, which he has not done in recent years when these two teams square off. Often lost in the dramatic victory last year is the fact that Brady was significantly outplayed by Flacco; and Brady’s mistakes (particularly an ill-advised deep pass to Matthew Slater in the fourth quarter, resulting in a momentum-shifting interception...

Patriots vs. Ravens: AFC Championship Preview and Prediction

Sunday’s NFL nightcap features what promises to be an epic game between the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens in a cold and stormy Foxboro, Massachusetts. The game kicks off at 6:30 PM EST and will be aired on CBS. It is also a rematch of a week 3 battle that came down to the wire. Baltimore QB Joe Flacco threw for 382 yards in that game, and the Ravens won by a single...

Flacco to Boldin increases Ravens lead

The Ravens have scored another touchdown and increased their lead to 21-13. Joe Flacco hit Anquan Boldin from three yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter. Baltimore had a 10-play 67-yard drive to increase their lead. The defense is playing well.

Patriots DBs wary of Ravens' long-ball potential

The New England Patriots defense cut down on allowing long completions as the season went on. The Baltimore Ravens never stopped making them. The Patriots (13-4) know they must keep Joe Flacco from connecting on deep throws to Torrey Smith, Anquan Boldin and Jacoby Jones in Sunday's AFC championship game. Those wide receivers have combined for 13 catches that gained 40 or more...

Game Preview: Baltimore Ravens at New England Patriots

In what will be a highly entertaining and emotional rematch of last year’s AFC Championship game, the Baltimore Ravens travel 400 miles up the Eastern seaboard to take on the defending AFC Champion New England Patriots. The Ravens advanced by stunning the Denver Broncos 38-35 in double overtime, while the Patriots took care of business at home against the Houston Texans. Expect...

NFL Conference Championship Picks

Playoffs: 5-3  REGULAR SEASON: 168-86-1 (66%) Def. I can't believe I'm making this selection, but I just have a feeling the Ravens are on that kind of roll the Giants had last year. The return of many players including Ray Lewis has really rejuvenated this team. I don't have a big write-up on this one because logic does indeed point to the Patriots...
