PLAYERS: Roger Goodell
TEAMS: Chicago Bears
Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office has confirmed that the mayor has once again spoken to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about the possibility of bringing the Super Bowl to famed Soldier Field. The two spoke at length about bringing a future Super Bowl to the Windy City at last year’s conference honoring Soldier Field as the league’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified stadium. Emanuel’s fortunes rest on the success of Super Bowl XLVIII, which is set to be held at New York’s MetLife Stadium in February of 2014. It will mark the first time the championship game has been held in an outdoor, cold-weather environment (Detroit and Indianapolis both hosted the Super Bowl, albeit inside domed stadiums). Said Mayor Emanuel’s spokesman Tom Alexander (via… “The mayor and Roger Goodell spoke last week on a number of matters,” Emanuel’s spokesman, Tom Alexander, said to “They speak or see one another on occasion. The mayor spoke with the commissioner about several things that would allow Chicago and the NFL to expand their already wonderful relationship. Chicago is a great sports town and a great football town, and the mayor wants to build on these strengths.” Emanuel cited Chicago’s successful turn hosting the 2012 NATO summit as proof that it could handle an event of the Super Bowl’s stature and popularity. With Tampa, Houston and San Francisco set to host the three Super Bowl games following New York in 2014, the earliest Chicago could possibly be considered as a site for the big game would be 2018. NFL Selling LGBT Gear

This is pretty neat. The NFL is now selling LGBT Pride shirts, with player names and numbers on the back, first scoped out by Deadspin. It’s the first thing Roger Goodell has done right since he put the Jets in the Superbowl. Or Tebow on the Jaguars. Or made PSLs illegal. Or suspsended Ray Lewis for steroids. Or squashed the 18 game season rumors. Or stopped grabbing money from...
