I really do hate the term ‘must-win’ because in reality, what game isn’t a must win situation in the National Football League? You have 16 games total and arguably, those first four games are as important as any and the historical statistics bear that out. Thirty teams have started the season 0-2 in the last four seasons and none has made the playoffs. For the Pittsburgh Steelers, the finger-pointing and poor execution must come to a halt tonight in Heinz Field because an 0-3 record means you may as well start looking to 2014 as the rival Browns apparently have. The return of Heath Miller will help but miracles cannot be expected from him. When this game is in the books, I don’t want to hear about how they were “this close” or how they “were a few plays away” from winning this game tonight. As my Grandfather used to say, “Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.” I don’t want to hear about how close the defense was to getting a few sacks or how close they were to getting ...

Sub Package Heyward Not Off To A Sub Standard Start

Through the first two games of the 2013 season, Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward has been credited with two total tackles, two passes defensed and four quarterback pressures in 63 snaps played. While that might not be an eye-popping stat line, it's important to remember how he's being used. Prior to the season starting, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said...

Steelers Will Set A Super Bowl Era Franchise Record Next Sunday If They Fail To Get A Turnover

The Pittsburgh Steelers failed to create a defensive turnover for a third straight game Sunday night in their 40-23 loss to the Chicago Bears and the last time they accomplished that feat was during the 2009 season during the stretch that they were supposed to be unleashing the hell. In the Super Bowl era, the Steelers have never gone four straight games without getting a turnover...

As bad as the Steelers have been through the first two weeks of the NFL regular season,  the good news is that tight end Heath Miller is active for tonight’s game against the Bears and will make his 2013 debut, per ProFootballTalk.com. Tight end Heath Miller is active for tonight’s game against the Bears, his first action since tearing his ACL late last year. They’ve kept...

Steelers Offensive And Defensive Snap Counts From Week 3 – Bears

Below are the snaps counts from the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday night loss to the Chicago Bears. As far as surprises go, rookie wide receiver Markus Wheaton only played eight snaps in the game after head coach Mike Tomlin hinted last week he would see more playing time moving forward. Tight end Heath Miller played 39 snaps in his season debut and that was nearly 60% of all offensive...

Kevin Colbert’s Recent Offensive Line Drafting is Coming Home to Roost

A good football team begins up front and it requires an offensive line that works as a unit and can communicate flawlessly. This does not currently describe the offensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers. The guy responsible for the mess that is this current offensive line is Kevin Colbert. Prior to coming to the Steelers in 2000, Colbert was the head scout for the Detroit Lions....

Awaiting The Rookie Splash On Offense

By Matthew Marczi With the defensive rookies for the Pittsburgh Steelers uncharacteristically emerging into more prominent roles, it begs the question: when will the offensive rookies finally have their say this year? The Steelers went offense back to back in the second and third rounds at premium positions in the 2013 draft, selecting running back Le’Veon Bell and wide receiver...

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the anatomy of a sucker bet

I was watching some NFL action on Sunday with friend and sometimes-contributor, Andy. He noticed the line on the Chicago Bears as Pittsburgh Steelers game was only the Bears by a point. He was right. The Bears were only 1 point favorites in a game that most figured to be pretty awful, at least from a Steelers fans perspective. But why? Most Vegas books had the line starting at 2.5...

Jay Cutler trucked the crap out of Steelers DB Robert Golden (GIF)

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler had arguably the best hit of Week 3 during his team’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night. With Chicago leading 27-24 in the fourth quarter, Cutler took off and scrambled for 13 yards to pick up a crucial first down on 3rd-and-10. Steelers safety Robert Golden made the […]

Chicago Bears at Pittsburgh Steelers: 2013 Week 3 NFL Pick

Chicago Bears (2-0) at Pittsburgh Steelers (0-2) I tweeted before Pittsburgh/Cincinnati that I could see the loser of the game still making the playoffs after starting 0-2 and I still feel Pittsburgh could sneak in, even after losing. It was a pretty competitive game either way. If David Paulson doesn’t fumble in field goal range in the 1st quarter and a tipped ball doesn’t...
