We all bought in on the preseason hype and presumed return to form for Larry Fitzgerald with Carson Palmer in the desert Quarterbacking the Arizona Cardinals but through half a season, that rebound hasn’t fully come to fruition. However, with a week to rest a nagging injury, Fitzgerald returns from the team’s bye apparently back to full health for the first time since the opening week of the season. Despite the injury, Fitzgerald is on pace to exceed his 2012 output in every statistical category and his five touchdowns through eight games already top last year’s 16 game total and is good for a top 10 mark league wide at WR. However, his catch rate and yards per reception are both outside of the top 50, so it is fair to say that the 30 year old receiver hasn’t been the dominant force he was expected to be. Part of that comes from QB play, of course, and Carson Palmer has hardly been a revelation with interceptions in every game and multiple in most but we’ll get our first chance to see, after his longest rest of the season, how much of a role the hamstring injury played. Larry Fitzgerald Week 10 Outlook Presently, Fitzgerald is pacing as the 21st fantasy scorer at WR a number that could improve over the second half, health permitting. As far as week 10 goes I have him slotted in at 18 for the week, right behind his FantasyPros ECR of 17, but there is a plausible scenario where he outplays that rank. He’s likely to see a lot of Johnathan Joseph who faced TY Hilton for seven of the receiver’s 11 targets last week. Generally speaking, Joseph is the Texans’ best corner – the only man on the team allowing a catch rate below 50% – but he struggled in the second half against Hilton and the Colts in Week 9, giving up five catches on those seven targets for 105 yards and two scores as part of seven grabs on 12 attempts overall. While Houston gives up the 5th fewest points to opposing WRs, they have allowed two opposing WRs to score multiple TDs (Hilton and Eddie Royal in Week 1) so it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that Fitzgerald posts a big day. Still, with a tough matchup on the docket in Week 10 a mid-range WR2 projection seems fair. If Fitzgerald looks good on the field and can stay healthy coming out of it, though, the Cardinals draw the Jags in Week 11, followed by top 10 WR matchups in the Colts and Eagles. His fantasy playoff schedule is more than a little rough, running up against the Titans and Seahawks, however. Still, with good health and a fairly light month ahead of him, Fitzgerald could improve on his current WR standing. Owners who invested a top 30 pick into the WR certainly hope so.
