Chicago Bears Football – Who is this Cornelius Washington and can he be a threat to an NFL offense? Even though he only played one game and racked up one tackle in his rookie season he has potential to become the next big Monster of the Midway. Drafted in 2013 as a sixth round pick there were questions about his work ethic. General Manager Phil Emery clearly ignored the nay sayers. With a speedy 4.55 second 40-yard dash during the combine and a solid 36 reps in the bench press, he may have gone higher on the draft board than he ended up. So, with speed and strength he has the athleticism that the Chicago Bears are looking for. It provides depth and gives the new defensive line coach Paul Pasqualoni a lot to work with. His college career was promising with 76 tackles and 10.5 sacks. He made 17 stops for total losses of 87 yards. There was a pass deflection and even a blocked field goal which led to a score by his team. The kid can certainly make plays on the defensive side of the ball which is something the Chicago Bears missed last season for the most part. He was labeled as an underachiever  and some believe that the Chicago Bears stole this draft pick who may end up being one of the anchors on the new defense. He is not the only second year player who may be getting a chance to show what he has to offer. After all, there is Jon Bostic and Khaseem Greene who got some playing time last season and most signs point to the Chicago Bears drafting early and often on the defensive side of the ball. So, we may all be looking at a young, fresh, athletic defense who will learn from experience plyaers like Lance Briggs and hopefully Charles Tillman. A new generation of Monsters may soon emerge and cause the riot on the defense that we are used to seeing.
