Pittsburgh Steelers rookie OL David DeCastro looks to be on the mend, and although he won't be seeing the field any time soon, the team is keeping him busy.
“He’s been doing all the extra things all the young guys are doing,” joked offensive coordinator Todd Haley to Will Graves of the Associated Press. “Some of that includes filling the refrigerator for the offensive line room, and the chip bag and the snack box and all those things.”
Beyond the jokes, DeCastro has been walking without a brace and cleared to use the stationary bike. “I don’t have any pain, so I’m just working hard to try to get back,” he said.
There's no timetable for his return; he's on the IR, and under the new Injured Reserve-Return rules, could be activated during the second half of the season.
And of course, his o-line teammates would love to see him on the field. “It’s tough for him to lose his first year in the NFL,” guard Willie Colon said. “He was a projected starter coming out, so it’s been tough. Obviously, to go down like that, it has to be disappointing. But he’s a head-strong kid. He knows what it takes to get back on the horse as soon as possible.”
“He watches practice and goes through walkthroughs,... So, that’s a good sign that he’s here all the time. And he’s still part of the family, so we want to keep him close.”

At 1-2, Steelers should leave their talking for the field on Sunday

When you’re 1-2 and coming off a loss to a team you have no business losing too, now is hardly the time to be stirring the pot with pointless chatter if you’re the Pittsburgh Steelers. After all, who does these guys think they are, Anthony Smith? Whether or not Steve McLendon, Antonio Brown, and Isaac Redman meant their comments as trash talking isn’t really the issue. Just...

Return of Polamalu and Harrison won't save the Steelers

The Steelers have are in rough shape. At 1-2, the team has looked lost much of this season, especially on defense. Despite dealing with key injuries to James Harrison and Troy Polamalu, we still expect the Steelers to play great defense, and that's something they haven't done this season. Although the aforementioned players will be back in action on Sunday, it still...

James Harrison Gives Debut A C Minus & Says He Never Was On A Snap Count

If it wasn't enough that the Pittsburgh Steelers had linebacker James Harrison back on the field Sunday in their 16-14 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, they had him for almost every snap in addition. Prior to the game defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau caution that the linebacker might be limited in his return, but Harrison was determined to stay on the field as long as he never...

Pittsburgh Steelers face a must-win situation against the Philadelphia Eagles

This week, they have a match-up against the talented Philadelphia Eagles (3-1) as the look to even their record at 2-2.Offensively, the Steelers are still searching for a consistent push in the running game. Neither starter Isaac Redman nor primary back-up Jonathan...

Polamalu re-injures his right calf

The Steelers were excited to get back a pair of star defenders today against their in-state rival, the Philadelphia Eagles. James Harrison has looked like his old self, flying around the field. On the other hand, Troy Polamalu's day came to an abrupt end. Near the end of the first quarter, Polamalu re-aggravated his right calf on a play that Michael Vick fumbled the ball...

Week 5: The Pittsburgh Steelers vs The Philadelphia Eagles

The Pittsburgh Steelers had the unfavorable early bye week in week 4 (the earliest a team can have the bye in the NFL). The early bye week is typically looked at as a bad thing as teams don’t usually need a week off after only three games, but for the Steelers a bye week may have been just wha ContinueThe post Week 5: The Pittsburgh Steelers vs The Philadelphia Eagles appeared...

Steelers' Polamalu,Woodley leave with injuries

Strong safety Troy Polamalu left the Pittsburgh Steelers' home game against the Philadelphia Eagles in the second quarter Sunday when his right calf injury was aggravated. Polamalu hopped off the field on one leg, and is not expected to return. He had missed the previous two games before last week's bye with the same injury. Outside linebacker Lamarr Woodley left with...

Is Steelers' defense over the hill?

The end is near. Pittsburgh won't enter next season with the NFL's oldest starting defense like in 2012. A core of seven starters over the age of 30 who have combined for a whopping 887 games with the Steelers will be dismantled because of declining performance, lofty salaries or a combination of both. The names are synonymous with the Steelers and this era of success:...

Kurt Coleman Saves a Touchdown From Antonio Brown, Throws his Shoe off the Field After Play (Video)

Losing a shoe while running is never fun. In Sunday's Keystone State battle between the Eagles and Steelers, the two Pennsylvania teams certainly got heated at various points during the game. While this may not be a hate-filled gesture, it did make some people go: huh? Pittsburgh's Antonio Brown caught a Ben Roethlisberger pass and showed some fancy footwork towards the endzone...

NFL: Former Georgia DB Brandon Boykin Getting No Respect from the Steelers

Mark this one under the ‘hell to the naw’ category. Former Georgia cornerback, current nickel back for the Philadelphia Eagles, Brandon Boykin is being called out as “sweet” by Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown. According to Brown, whichever receiver on their team gets Boykin as their cover man will be one lucky guy. The Steelers (1-2) will be looking for a...

Lesson’s from Arizona learned the Eagles will prevail in Pittsburgh

Preparing for the Pittsburgh Steelers the Eagles have the ability and TAPE to be ready for the challenge. The Eagles have seen as recently as the Arizona game what waits for them in Pittsburgh. Ray Horton Arizona Defensive Coordinator a Steelers alum and Dick LeBeau graduate, ran a very similar defense to what the Eagles will see this week. Blitz’s, blitz’s and more blitz’s...

Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers: Keystone State Battle

Philadelphia and Pittsburgh get together this weekend for a battle in the Keystone State.  So which team will unlock the door of bragging rights in the great state of Pennsylvania?  The Eagles come into this game at 3 – 1 and atop the NFC East.  Although Philly hasn’t won a game by more than 2 points, they are still finding ways to get the job done.  The Steelers are a surprising...

Steelers Receivers Take Jab at Eagle's Rookie Brandon Boykin- My Take on the Game at 1:00 Today

The candy bar in action. US Presswire Earlier this week, Steelers receiver Antonio Brown predicted that Pittsburgh's offense would pick on Eagles corner back Brandon Boykin when the two teams meet Sunday. Then, he said something strange. Brown called Boykin “the candy bar.” Which, we presume, is an insult because Brown also said Boykin tends to get beat by opposing receivers...

Troy Polamalu leaves with a calf injury

According to ESPN’s John Clayton, Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu left today’s game against the Eagles with a calf injury. Polamalu already missed the past couple of games because of the same calf injury.

Tough loss because of squandered opportunities to put it away early...Steelers 16, Eagles 14...

I know most pundits will be talking about the key fumbles committed by Michael Vick that took big points off the board...and yeah, maybe the Eagles should have proven they are better and tougher than the Steelers except for their failure to hold on to the ball in scoring situations. But my main criticism will be focused on the disconnect between the linebackers of the Eagles...
