Football and Futbol:
On day 9 of training camp, the San Francisco 49ers returned to practice after a day off with several wide receivers back in the lineup. Receivers A.J. Jenkins, Kyle Williams, Ricardo Lockette, and Kassim Osgood rejoined practice after missing time due to injuries. Also back at practice were linebackers NaVorro Bowman and Aldon Smith. In addition, Mike Iupati and Tarell Brown practiced. However, Joe Staley, who had not missed a day of practice yet, did not practice. Also absent were Jonathan Goodwin, Patrick Willis, and Justin Smith.
The offense featured many solid performances on this day. Jenkins made a few good catches, despite dealing with a hamstring strain in previous days, including a 50-yard touchdown pass. Receivers Austin Collie and Lavelle Hawkins ran extra routes while special teams practiced. Quarterback BJ Daniels again practiced at multiple positions. Tight end Vernon Davis made a one-handed catch from Colin Kaepernick on a fade route. Davis sat out the last part of practice with a foot injury. Receiver Marlon Moore had 3 catches for 30 yards. Receiver Kyle Williams made a 20-yard td reception on his return from injury.
The defense also featured several notable performances. Day nine offered Eric Reid’s turn to practice with the first-team at free safety, after the team had rotated Craig Dahl, C.J. Spillman, and Trenton Robinson. Linebacker Aldon Smith had 3 sacks. Bowman also sacked both Kaepernick and Daniels. Cornerback Tramaine Brock intercepted a McCoy pass to Moore and returned it for a touchdown. Linebacker Michael Wilhoite intercepted Kaepernick. Perrish Cox also had a good day.
A few weak spots showed at this practice as well. Guard Adam Snyder, practicing in place of Staley, allowed a sack by linebacker Cam Johnson. Tight end Vance McDonald dropped 3 passes, and earned a false start penalty. Kaepernick also seemed to struggle, throwing one pick and failing to score a touchdown in 3 attempts from the 8-yard line.
After practice, head coach Jim Harbaugh, cornerback Carlos Rogers, and running back LaMichael James spoke to the media. Harbaugh praised the work that James has put in at camp, especially as a punt returner. James himself feels that he has a better understanding of the game and his role in it. He could well be the 49ers punt returner when the season starts. Rogers talked about the impact of losing Chris Culliver for the season. He relies on having a certain comfort level with the other defensive backs, like he had with Culliver. Perhaps Rogers can work on improving that comfort level with the other defensive backs in the 49ers first preseason game this Thursday, August 8 versus the Denver Broncos. Linebacker Patrick Willis is not expected to play in this game but A. J. Jenkins should see a good amount of playing time.

Nnamdi Asomugha may not still be with the San Francisco 49’ers come the start of the 2013 season. According to the Associated Press and NFL.com, the once highly regarded cornerback is far from being guaranteed a roster spot by any means in San Francisco.

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio isn’t sold on cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and wants to see more consistency.
It seems organization wise the feeling is mutual as they continue to flirt with free agent Eric Wright.
Asomugha’s first week in training camp has been up and down, and from the way Fangio expresses his thoughts, the cornerback needs to step it...
49ers wide receiver A.J. Jenkins was back at practice for the 49ers today after nursing a hamstring strain and is expected to play in this week’s preseason opener, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee.
Jenkins hasn’t been very impressive in camp so far. He has to turn things around in the preseason and prove to the 49ers that they didn’t waste a first round pick...
According to Mike Sando of ESPN.com, 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis underwent surgery on his fractured hand and is only expected to miss a few weeks.

If you know @PatrickWills52, you know...
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis will need at least two weeks to recover from hand surgery, reports ESPN's Mike Sando.
While we don't know exactly what happened to the hand last Wednesday in practice, it did require surgery. It could be a slight fracture, as the NFL Networks' Ian Rapoport reported last Thursday, and given Willis' history of hand breaks...
After a devastating loss in Super Bowl XLVII, the San Francisco 49ers have to pick up the pieces this preseason. A lot of Super Bowl losers decline in the season following, but this is the 49ers we’re talking about.
They will bounce back, but they still have a few parts of their roster that have questions remaining. That’s why I’ve found five players this preseason you should...
Nnamdi Asomugha has a beautiful actress for a wife, some money in the bank account, and several philanthropic ventures going on off the field.
Asomugha might want to make arrangements to be doing something else this NFL season.
Even with the loss of cornerback Chris Culliver for the season, there still was no guarantee that Asomugha would make the 49ers final roster.

Good news on the Patrick Willis injury front. As expected, the 49ers star linebacker should be back in time for the start of the season after breaking his right hand last week in practice.
Willis reportedly did undergo surgery recently on the hand, however, which he broke during one-on-one drills on Wednesday. According to ESPN’s Mike Sando, the recovery time is expected to take...
While the 49ers offense is going to be a highly powerful, highly functioning machine in the running and passing game, the majority of their individual players aren’t really great fantasy bets. The San Francisco 49ers are going to try and spread the football, distributing it to several players, and have several weapons and options on the offensive side of the ball. This means...
Patrick Willis has had surgery on his fractured right hand according to an ESPN.com report. The 49ers' inside linebacker sustained the injury late last week but he is expected to return to the field before the team's first regular season game on against the Packers on Sept. 8.
Willis might have sustained the injury when he collided with fullback Bruce Miller in a blitz pickup...
Day 9 of the San Francisco's 49ers training camp was highlighted by the return of a number of key players and Tramaine Brock, who continues to have a good camp as hopes to become the replacement for Chris Culliver.
The beginning of August signals the undeniably awesome fact that football is right around the corner. While there’s only one small way the 49ers can improve on last season’s outcome, there likely is a way that you can improve on the outcome of your fantasy football season.
I for one consider myself a major homer when it comes to fantasy sports. My current fantasy baseball lineup...
