The Two top-ranked teams this postseason – the Green Bay Packers and the New England Patriots – possess the two weakest defenses in the tournamnet, respectively. They actually finished last and next to last in total defense during the regular season. We are beginning to wonder if these statistics mean anything in this day and age. The Giants finished 27th in total defense in 2011 (29th vs the pass; 19th vs the run). They have been tightening up their game the past few weeks, only allowing 14 points in each of their victories over the Jets and Cowboys. The question is, now: can the Giants’ defense continue to gel and get them through the playoffs? Or will those inexplicable cracks and lapses return to haunt them?
