PLAYERS: Carson Palmer
TEAMS: Oakland Raiders
Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen indicated today that their plan is to have Carson Palmer as their starting quarterback going into 2013. “That’s the plan. Carson had a really good year last year. Threw for over 4,000 yards,” said Allen, per Evan Silva of The Raiders are currently $2.4 million over the salary cap.  If they release Palmer they will save $15 million.  It makes sense for them to cut him and then try to re-sign him at a lower salary.   Need NFL Tickets? var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; var _CI = _CI || {}; (function() { var script = document.createElement('script'); ref = document.getElementsByTagName('script')[0]; _CI.counter = (_CI.counter) ? _CI.counter + 1 : 1; document.write(''); script.type = 'text/javascript'; script.src = ''+_CI.counter; script.async = true; ref.parentNode.insertBefore(script, ref); })();

Raiders should trade down in the 2013 NFL Draft

The Oakland Raiders will get to pick 3rd overall in the 2013 NFL draft, but with the immense depth of defensive linemen in this year’s draft; should the Raiders trade the 3rd pick to move down? The Raiders have a lot of needs including defensive tackles and defensive ends. That happens to be the position most draft experts see the Raiders taking with the 3rd overall pick, but...

Raiders RB Taiwan Jones moving to cornerback

Taiwain Jones has struggled to make his mark in the Raiders backfield in the two years he’s been with the team. Jones has the speed to excel at the position but it sorely lacks the size at 5-foot-10, 197 pounds and has struggled staying healthy. And he’s also been firmly in the shadows of Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson (even Marcel Reece) on the depth chart. But now Jones is...

Raiders Expected To Move RB Taiwan Jones To Cornerback Next Season

Oakland Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie mentioned that they will ask RB Taiwan Jones to move to cornerback next season, per Bill Williamson. “I’m pushing for cornerback,” said McKenzie. “I think it fits his skill set. I think we’re going to see how he does there.” It’s worth noting that Jones actually played some corner while at Eastern Washington, so the position isn’t...

Report: Fitzy to help Russell on Pro Day?

JaMarcus Russell will reportedly be holding a Pro Day in April, and one of the NFL's best receivers could be catching passes for him.

In depth 2013: Oakland Raiders

The first year of the post Al Davis–era in Oakland ended much the same way as much of the previous decade – with the Raiders on the outside of the playoff picture looking in. After a promising 2011 saw Oakland hit the .500 mark, salary cap issues and a lack of draft picks caused the Silver and Black to take a large step back in 2012. Those same issues continue to plague the Raiders...

Raiders Could Be Parting Ways With DT Tommy Kelly

Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Oakland Raiders are considering releasing DT Tommy Kelly. Kelly, 32, signed a seven-year, $50.125 million contract back in 2008. He has base salaries of $6.5 million in 2013 and another $7 million in 2014. As things stand right now, his 2013 cap number is $4.8 million, so it would make sense for the Raiders to free up some...
