TEAMS: Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos Organization (Photo credit: unknown)On Monday, the Denver Broncos announced their disciplinary actions for both Director of Player Personnel Matt Russell and Director of Pro Personnel Tom Heckert, by suspending both of the men. Russell is suspended indefinitely without pay stemming from his DUI arrest on July 6th, while Heckert is suspended one month without pay, due to his earlier June 11th DUI arrest. According to, the reason Russell’s suspension is more severe, comes from the severity of his actions. Russell was charged with a DUI in Colorado after hitting a parked police car at about 40 mph. He was also charged with having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, failure to display proof of insurance and careless driving resulting in an injury. In an interview, Vice President of Football Operations, John Elway said that it is important to look at each circumstance separately, and to be able to figure out what the correct punishment is for each one. The timing of Russell’s incident also may have played a factor in his discipline. Russell knew about Heckert’s June arrest for driving under the influence and careless driving, because afterward, the Broncos met about it, but Russell still didn’t note the seriousness of it, and didn’t change his ways. “It’s particularly disappointing that two members of my staff acted so irresponsibly. Simply put, it’s unacceptable and inexcusable,” Elway said in a statement. Elway also wants to let the players know that they (the Broncos Organization) mean business in the front office, as well as with them. “I think it’s important for the players to know that they’re not going to be held any different than anybody else. The front office is just as accountable as the players are going to be held, and that’s to make sure that we are consistent there.”

Teams are anxiously awaiting the start of  training camp followed by preseason football. Rosters are beginning to take shape, but it’s only a matter of time until that once polished roster becomes a depth chart of red lines due to injuries. Most teams will scour the market watching other teams drop players, but here are 10 free agents that could make a difference on your team...

Peyton Manning reportedly threw the football with “superb velocity” at the Manning Passing Academy

According to Bucky Brooks of, after struggling at times with his arm strength last season, Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning displayed great velocity on his throws at the Manning Passing Academy. At the Manning Passing Academy, I saw Manning throw the ball with superb velocity and zip while continuing to display exceptional accuracy and ball placement. Additionally, Manning...

The Legend of Wes Welker Will Continue to Grow in Denver

Now that Wes Welker will no longer have Tom Brady throwing the pigskin to him, you would think Welker’s legend would slowly start to die. Normally, that would be the case. But fortunately for Wes Welker, he will go from one future hall of fame quarterback in Tom Brady, to another future hall of fame quarterback in Peyton Manning. Not a bad trade. But the big question here is what...

DC Jack Del Rio’s goal: ‘If you can keep Peyton guessing in practice then that’s good work for being able to keep quarterbacks guessing on Sundays’

The concept is quite simple, if defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio can confuse Peyton Manning, he can confuse anyone. That’s the goal for the Denver Broncos DC and it’s not easy to do. The start of training camp starts next Friday and one of the goals will be mastering the art of disguise. However, that is easier said than done with the 16-year veteran quarterback who has...

Drafting Insight: Fantasy Football Draft Strategies

When it comes to draft time in fantasy football there are many different approaches one can take when building his team. The player you decide to go with first can alter the amount of points your team accumulates, but that also depends on the rules of your league. For instance, if you play in a PPR (points per reception) league then the choice between Arian Foster and Calvin Johnson...

Tiki Barber: Eli is better than Peyton

Former Giants running back Tiki Barber, somewhat contradicting things he has said in the past, stated that he believes Eli Manning is a better QB than his brother Peyton.

AFC West: July stock watch

Denver Broncos, RISING: Addition by subtraction; that's how the Broncos continue to rise in my book. The Patriots were probably the Broncos' tallest hurdle in the chase for a Super Bowl championship, but with their recent troubles, it looks like the Patriots are weaker than ever. As long as the Broncos are able to stay healthy, they should be able to cruise into the playoffs...

Lions Will Host DT Justin Bannan Next Week

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that free agent DT Justin Bannan will visit with the Detroit Lions on Monday. Klis finds it “baffling” that Bannan is still available at this point in the offseason. The Broncos drafted Sylvester Williams in the first-round of the recent NFL draft and added Terrance Knighton in free agency, so it’s clear that they have made the decision...

One of the greater debates in recent years has been deciding on which of the Brothers Manning is the supreme quarterback. Tiki Barber believes it's no contest. I remember having these conversations...
