Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker left the team’s Week 11 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night with a possible concussion. The Broncos wound up winning 27-17. Welker took a helmet-to-helmet hit on a 20-yard catch in the fourth quarter. After the hit, he went back into the game briefly, which could lead to an investigation by the NFL. The 32-year-old was then taken to the locker room and evaluated for a concussion by the team’s trainers. He was unable to return. He finished the game with eight catches for 72 yards on 10 targets. The diminutive wideout has been dealing with an ankle injury for several weeks and this will just be added to the list of ailments he’s dealing with. Welker had to deal with the physicality of Kansas City’s secondary all night. Cornerback Brandon Flowers was knocking Welker around all game and the fact that he was able to haul in eight passes was pretty impressive. The Broncos will now have to face the possibility of not having their top receiver for the team’s big showdown with the New England Patriots next Sunday night. Welker has not missed a game since 2010, but if he does, indeed, have a concussion that’s a serious possibility. So far this season, Welker has 61 receptions for 648 yards and nine touchdowns. If he misses any time it would be a blow to the Broncos’ offense.
