Last year it looked like Devin McCourty finally gave the back end of the Patriots’ secondary some stability with an impressive showing at free safety. But without McCourty’s mom, Phyllis Harrell, the Patriots’ All-Pro might not have made it past one year of Pop Warner football.
Harrell recorded a video on Saturday for Mother’s Day explaining the best piece of advice she ever gave Devin and his twin brother, Jason. Her lesson was to always finish what you’ve started. She said that both twins didn’t like football in their first year of Pop Warner, but she convinced them to stick it out — and now they’re both starring in the NFL.
Check out Mama McCourty’s message in the video below.
The McCourty twins showed appreciation for their mother on Twitter.
My mom is my protector, listener, leader, and friend. Bottom line? @MamaMcCourty is better than your mom! Lol (D-Mac) http://t.co/udZ1jXpHan— Jason+Devin McCourty (@McCourtyTwins) May 12, 2013
Mom: You are my disciplinary, my provider, my role model, but more importantly @MamaMcCourty, MY BEST FRIEND! (J-Mac) http://t.co/KXCRQ38kMM— Jason+Devin McCourty (@McCourtyTwins) May 12, 2013
