The Philadelphia Eagles won't have another jailbird on their roster after all. The team's backup running back Dion Lewis had the criminal charges against him dismissed in court on Monday.

According to Bryan Fitzgerald of the Times Union, Dion and his brother Lamar Lewis were both charged with a felony of falsely reporting a fire and a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment during a July 8 incident at a Hampton Inn hotel in Albany, NY.

Police said that the two brothers were trying to knock down the glass doors to the hotel's lobby and pulled a fire alarm after they were not allowed inside by hotel security. According to the Lewis brothers' attorneys, the two were coming back to the hotel from a night of drinking and were locked out without their room keys.

A member of the hotel staff called 911, saying the men were banging on the doors, "trying to break them down," and that Lamar Lewis was seen in the lobby with a small knife. In the 911 call in the video below via the Union Times, the Hampton Inn employee told police to "get here right away."

Upon arriving on scene with guns drawn, police handcuffed and pepper sprayed the two brothers, before dragging them outside. According to the Times Union, Police spokesman Steve Smith said officers used the spray because they believed the brothers were trying to break into the hotel while in possession of a knife.

Smith said that the incident is being reviewed, but there was nothing to indicate the officers acted inappropriately. District Attorney David Soares said he believed the officers reacted the way they did because of the description of the scene from the 911 call. Neither of the Lewis attorneys commented on the use of force by police.

The two brothers could have faced up to four years in prison if convicted, but will go free as long as they remain out of trouble for six months. It was shown that the two men never pulled a fire alarm, and were not trying to break into the hotel but were just locked out of their room.

Check out the video of the arrest and the audio of the 911 call in the videos below, via the Times Union.

  • They should sue the stupid A$$ hotel.
  • How in the world can Steve Smith, the Spokesman for the Police Dept say that he saw nothing inappropriate. The officers pepper-sprayed, hand-cuffed, and dragged them out of the hotel on the ground without once determining if they were guests of the hotel. The Lewis brothers deserve not only an apology, but the hotel clerk, the police officers, and anyone involved in this deserve to lose their job. You best believe I will not be staying at Hampton hotels, EVER!!!!!!!!!!!! Those two young men could have loss their lives over fault reporting by the clerk and over-reaction by the police. And how the District Attorney did not see that is beyond me and COMMON SENSE.

LeSean McCoy, Like Michael Vick, Crazy in Thinking Eagles Can Become a Dynasty

They must have put something in the water down in Philadelphia, because the Eagles are dishing out some crazy talk. Mike Vick Stands By His “Dynasty” Talk, Andy Reid Backs Him

According to a few of my friends the Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl Contenders… apparently Mike Vick and Andy Reid not only thinks that but they are “building a dynasty”. Since opening that statement, Vick was asked to clarify those statements even further. “That’s just me speaking in confidence, and if you ask my teammates, they’d tell you the same thing,” Vick...

Mike Patterson's Recovery Opens Door for Fletcher Cox

As the twelfth pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is being counted on to contribute to the Philadelphia Eagles’ ‘wide nine’ defense fairly early in his career.   With the news today coming out of training camp concerning Mike Patterson, incumbent starter at tackle, Cox’s contributions may need to come earlier.   Patterson, the first round pick...

Vick Still a Top Five QB

Michael Vick burned all his owners last season, including me. But it’s a new year and Mike has another opportunity to prove his critics wrong. The studs are set. Rodgers, Brady and Brees have played themselves into a separate category. They’re goin’ after the tier one running backs are selected. Then who? Well Reid’s strategy remains pass oriented. Vick will get his. And...

Eagles shut down Mike Patterson

Eagles’ trainer Rick Burkholder told the Philadelphia Inquirer that Mike Patterson will not participate in Training Camp. He will be placed on the non-football injury list, with “no timetable for return.” Patterson passed out from heat exhaustion in Training Camp last offseason and began seizing. During a brain scan, it was discovered that he had an AVM in his brain and, while...

Philadelphia Eagles: Adding Visanthe Shiancoe Would Give Eagles Dynamic Duo at TE Position

Current Philadelphia Eagles tight end Brent Celek is beloved amongst fans and rightfully so. Celek is one of the best—though underrated—tight ends in the NFL. He is also among the best tight ends in Eagles history and, in 2011, quietly ranked alongside Pro Bowl tight ends Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham. Eagles work out Maynard

According to Tim McManus of 97.5 the Fanatic, the Philadelphia Eagles are giving punter Brad Maynard a workout. Yes, the Eagles do have second year punter Chas Henry but after the season he had it’s not a bad idea to make him earn his spot. @Tim_McManus: Eagles working out punter Brad Maynard. Personally, I think Henry doesn’t have to worry about losing his job but bringing...
