New England Patriots
New Orleans Saints
There’s a good reason why the New England Patriots were still able to go 12-4 despite taking a step back on offense, and it didn’t all have to do with toughness, grit, determination and mental strength.
The Patriots’ pass defense was much better in 2013 compared to last season. And while quarterback Tom Brady‘s play went down with some key subtractions — thanks to injuries, offseason moves and one high-profile arrest – the secondary also got much better with some key additions.
Cornerback Aqib Talib was much better in his second season in New England, rookie cornerback Logan Ryan provided important depth that the Patriots did not have in previous seasons and safety Devin McCourty finally helped lock down the deep half of the field. There were no wide receivers playing defense this season for New England.
Check out some key statistics from the past two seasons to the right.
The Patriots got better in every category other than interceptions and completions of more than 40 yards. In g...
BEST OF MAXIM
Peyton Manning is going to win the Most Valuable Player award this season. I’m not debating that. He’s going to win in a landslide. The honor of being named the NFL’s MVP generally goes to the offensive skilled position player who puts up the biggest numbers in a given season. However, in the true spirit of a Most Valuable Player award, Tom Brady should be this year’s winner...
LeGARRETTE BLOUNT IS A "HORSE" IN THE RAIN Definition - Mudder: "A racehorse that runs well on a wet or muddy track" This Sunday, LeGarrette Blount was a "mudder" of huge proportions. He was the difference maker in the New England Patriots 34-20 win over the Buffalo Bills in a driving rain. Blount did something no one else had ever done in the NFL.....
The Patriots began their first practice of the week without four players; Josh Boyce, Alfonzo Dennard, Aaron Dobson and Logan Mankins.
The extent to which each is injured is unknown but this is likely the case of the Patriots taking full advantage of the bye week to rest their injured players. Boyce has missed weeks with an ankle injury while Dennard has been banged up for...
Tom Brady talking about toughness of Logan Mankins, playing thru injury. Says he's never played with anyone tougher. "He's second to none."— Mike Reiss (@MikeReiss) December 30, 2013Yup. That about sums it up. Logan Mankins is easily the toughest SOB in the NFL.Even Bill thinks so:Mankins carrying a child to safety"First of all, I agree with Tom (Brady...
Former New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe is selling his Oregon home for $9.95 million, and sports lovers everywhere will be envious of this mansion.
Located in a gated community, the 10-acre property boasts an all-purpose turf field, a basketball court with retractable backboards, a pool and a putting green — not to mention stunning views of the Cascade Mountains from...
This time last year the New England Patriots had perhaps the most dynamic tandem of tight ends the NFL has ever seen in Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. With one in a wheelchair and one behind-bars, the Patriots have been forced to move forward this year with a new tight end grouping, led by Michael Hoomanawanui and supported by Matthew Mulligan and D.J Williams.Winslow Townson...
FOXBORO, Mass. — It doesn’t matter whether the New England Patriots made the right decision between wide receivers Danny Amendola and Wes Welker, they have Julian Edelman.
Edelman became the third Patriots player in team history to catch over 100 passes in a season on Sunday in the Patriots’ 34-20 win over the Buffalo Bills. He added 1,000 yards on the year for good measure...
Patriots safety Devin McCourty had plenty of time to heal up before they open up the playoffs, but sooner’s always better than later so it’s good news for New England that McCourty was participating in practice on Wednesday.
McCourty suffered a concussion in Week 16 and did not play in the regular season finale against the Bills as a result. Concussion symptoms can return, but...
he New England Patriots were missing four key players at the start of Wednesday’s practice. Guard Logan Mankins (ankle), wide receivers Aaron Dobson (foot) and Josh Boyce (ankle) and cornerback Alfonzo Dennard (shoulder/knee) were absent from practice. Mankins and Dobson were injured during Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills.
Hands up if you thought LeGarrette Blount would have a bigger impact than Jeff Demps after the trade between the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? OK, keep your hands up if you thought Blount would outshine Demps on Special Teams this year? Yeah, didn't think so.Photo: US PresswireBill Belichick has pulled off another masterstroke. He took a flyer on an Olympic...
Logan Mankins left yesterday's game with a pretty severe looking ankle injury. However, it wasn't so severe that the man had to miss much playing time. That's just the kind of guy Logan Mankins is.Maybe it was severe enough though that it requires him to walk in a walking boot, or at least have one on hand.Boston Herald:Logan Mankins had some new footware in his locker...
Tom Brady didn't even have a very impressive statistical season by his own standards. Peyton Manning set the record books aflame and had an historical season by any standard. Yet, Tom Brady should at least be in the discussion for winning the MVP award.
Manning has now (officially) broken two of the greatest records that a quarterback can in a single season - the single...
The New England Patriots might not have secured home-field advantage in the postseason, but as the No. 2 seed in the AFC, they are guaranteed to host at least one playoff game.
New England will host the AFC’s highest remaining seed on Saturday, Jan. 11, in one of the conference’s two divisional-round matchups, meaning the Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs or Indianapolis...
The New England Patriots took down the Buffalo Bills this past Sunday 34-20 in a game that never seemed very close.
There is not much to say about this game. LeGarrette Blount trudged through sloppy condishions and a sloppy Bills front 7 on his way to racking up 189 yards on the ground, a career high. But Blount did not stop there, he also tacked on 145 yards returning the ball...
Aqib Talib‘s hip may not be at 100 percent, but the New England Patriots cornerback was back to dominating his competition on Sunday.
Talib was targeted just once and did not allow a reception in the Patriots’ 34-20 win over the Buffalo Bills. Talib lined up on the left side of New England’s defense and shut down his side of the field at Gillette Stadium.
The Pro Bowl cornerback...
