Found April 26, 2012 on Philly Sports Muse:
It’s draft day–who’s excited?! In a few hours, we will shift from trying to anticipate the Eagles’ first round draft pick to dissecting their selection. But until then, let’s enjoy the last few moments of speculation. Draft expert Mike Mayock of the NFL Network released his one and only mock draft yesterday, and on it he had Philadelphia selecting a player that some may find as a surprise–Carolina CB Stephon Gilmore. Of the selection, Mayock said, We all know that Asante Samuel is out. With Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie in the final year of his contract, though, I think you have to take a corner. Gilmore is the No. 8 player on my entire board. ESPN’s Mel Kiper has the Eagles trading up to get their man–moving up to the #7 spot to get Mississippi State DT Fletcher Cox. In this scenario, the Eagles move up to get a defensive tackle they covet, and Jacksonville gets to move down because they can’t maximize value for a top need here. Cox has a chance to become a Pro Bowl player regardless...

Eagles deal Asante Samuel to the Falcons

After having him on the trade block for almost a year, the Eagles have finally shipped Asante Samuel out of town, trading him to the Falcons for a mere 7th round pick.  Samuel restructured his contract with Atlanta to earn less money as a requirement of the deal. Why the Eagles traded a still very good cornerback for just a late round pick is somewhat puzzling on the surface.  While...

Philadelphia Eagles: 2012 Draft preview

The 2012 NFL Draft is upon us, which means that thousands of people will be tuned into hours and hours of speculation and only minutes of actual drafting. For example: “With the first pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select Andrew Luck, quarterback from Stanford University.” It probably took you about four seconds to read that and will take about eight seconds...

Philadelphia Eagles 2012 Draft: Winning Last 4 Games of 2011 Proves Costly

Think back to December 1st, 2011, right after the Philadelphia Eagles took a beating at the hands of the hapless Seattle Seahawks, 31-14.  Do you remember how you felt? I do, and the two best words I can use to describe it without turning this into a profanity-laced tirade are angry and disgusted. That was the Eagles’ fourth loss in a span of five games to drop their record...

Asante Samuel Shipped To Atlanta

Cornerback Asante Samuel has been traded from the Eagles to the Falcons in exchange for a late-round draft pick, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Fantasy Spin: Samuel may be 31, but has plenty of good football left in him, and most recently made the Pro Bowl in 2010. Atlanta gets him at a nice bargain, and he will most notably help their secondary slow down Brees Brees and New...

A "serious" Draft for Eagles --- Livefyre commentary by smartest Philly fans ...

It's serious because Andy and Howie need some good hits and some good luck from the 2012 Draft in order to continue their current regime.Balancing positional need against Best Player Available philosophy should not be so complicated, according to GM Howie Roseman, who's entering his third season. In most cases, Howie knows the team should simply trust its meticulous...

Report: Falcons close to acquiring Asante Samuel

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Atlanta Falcons are close to acquiring Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel for a late-round pick. The Falcons and Eagles had agreed on the terms of a trade yesterday, but they were having a problem with agreeing with Samuel on a pay cut that would be beneficial to both sides.  Samuel wanted to keep most of the $10 million he’s...

Video: Browns get their tackle, taking Mitchell Schwartz

As Kirk let us all know earlier, the Cleveland Browns got giant many Mitchell Schwartz. He is a 6’5″ 320 pound monster who Mike Mayock called a “plug-and-play” right tackle. Of course the Browns could have gone with either offensive line or wide receiver with their second rounder. I guess the Browns feel their chances of getting a receiver are still good later. But let...

Tennessee Titans Make Surprise Selection, Take Star WR Kendall Wright

Entering the 2012 NFL Draft, wide receiver wasn’t on the list of the top three needs for the Tennessee Titans. But that didn’t stop the team from making a surprise selection again this April and taking the star receiver out of Baylor. Kendall Wright saw steady growth in his four-year college career at Baylor. “When he gets the ball in his hands, he’s special,” Mike Mayock...

The Good -Mike Mayock was great. He gave a ton of information about the players, was brutally honest, and provided a lot of refreshing insight. Mayock also actually analyzed the players instead of...
