Nick Foles has impressed Eagles fans and coaches.

The Eagles last preseason game against the Jets will not feature many, if any stars and normally I avoid these games. But this year is different from most years as we could be seeing the future of the Eagles at quarterback. After seeing VERY little of Michael Vick this preseason due to injuries, Nick Foles has seen far more time behind center then planned. As we all know Foles has made the most of his time on the field. His performances have also sparked the latest “quarterback controversy” in Philadelphia. Andy Reid recently remarked that Foles has a nice future in Philadelphia and in a couple of years…Michael Vick is Reid’s quarterback end of controversy?????

What has many of us concerned is the obvious, Vick has shown he is injury prone. Which is why the fans, have anointed Nick Foles his successor. Based off his preseason, why not? Let’s face it Eagles history shows us that second-hand quarterbacks will not take you far. Since the Eagles drafted Randall Cunningham, they have had one legit star at quarterback, Donovan McNabb and as we know he was also drafted.(promptly booed too) Outside of McNabb and Cunningham the Eagles have had plenty of recycled quarterbacks, Jim McMahon, Bubby Brister, Ken O’Brien, Jeff Kemp, Rodney Peete, Doug Pederson, Jeff Garcia and now Michael Vick. In listing all of these quarterbacks and considering their contributions to Eagles victories and post-season appearances, McNabb and Cunningham stand out as Eagles quarterback successes, the rest, well not so much.

So when we hear the arguments that Foles is not ready and he’s only a rookie consider Eagles history. Cunningham who was trotted out on the field when it was third and forever by Buddy Ryan and McNabb who was in by week 10 of his rookie season. Both struggled and both became very good quarterbacks in the NFL. If and I will repeat IF, Michael Vick goes down and misses time, Nick Foles needs to be our guy. Yes he will struggle just like McNabb and Cunningham but I would rather see him get the experience and possibly become the quarterback of the Eagles for the next ten years. If not we could be in for more quarterbacks like the ones on the list, we will just need to add Trent Edwards.Similar Posts:
