Found August 11, 2012 on The Football Fan Spot:
The Ravens had two key members of their receiving corps go out with injuries in their first preseason game, as Ed Dickson left with a shoulder injury and Torrey Smith left with an ankle injury. Both are expected to miss most of the preseason and, while they are expected to be back for week 1, this will mean that Joe Flacco will be without 3 of his top-4 receivers for most of the Preseason as Dennis Pitta will also miss all of the preseason and possibly week 1 with a broken hand. The only one healthy currently is Anquan Boldin, who is heading into his age 32 season and has declined noticeably over the last 2 seasons. This could hurt Joe Flacco’s timing with his receiving early in the season, which won’t help him bounce back from a season in which he had his career worst completion percentage, 57.6%, and YPA, 6.7 YPA, along with 20 touchdowns to 12 interceptions. There will be more pressure on the offense this year, with what should be an inferior defense (as compared to 2011) behind ...

Ravens' TE Dickson expected back by opener

Baltimore Ravens tight end Ed Dickson will miss the rest of the preseason but is expected back for the season opener with a shoulder injury. Dickson left Thursday's exhibition win over the Atlanta Falcons opener because of the injury but an MRI Friday revealed no structural damage, according to the Baltimore Sun. Dickson caught two passes for 15 yards, including a 9-yard...

Ravens’ Torrey Smith already back practicing

Yesterday, I commented on a report that Torrey Smith would miss most of the preseason with an ankle injury and his week 1 status was in jeopardy. However, it appears that was much ado about nothing as Smith was already back practicing for the Ravens today. My original projection of him as a major fantasy sleeper and a great value at his current ADP in the 7th round still stands....

Ed Dickson Undergoes MRI on Shoulder

Baltimore tight end Ed Dickson had an MRI on his right shoulder which showed no structural damage, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.Fantasy Spin:The Ravens have two quality tight ends in Dickson and Dennis Pitta and they combined to catch 94 balls for 933 yards and eight touchdowns last season. Should one of them take over a full-time role or get injured, the other...

5 reasons Joe Flacco will lead Ravens to the Super Bowl

In Baltimore, as Joe Flacco’s pass sailed through the air and into the hands of Lee Evans in last year’s AFC Championship game, you could almost hear an entire city exhale with relief that Flacco had finally proven his critics wrong.  For a brief moment in time, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback had arrived. And then [...]

Ravens aren’t unscathed after first preseason game

The goal for the preseason is for the starters to get their work, but not get injured. That wasn’t the case for the Ravens following their 31-17 victory over the Falcons Thursday night. Starting tight end Ed Dickson has a sprained shoulder and defensive lineman Ryan McBean has a fractured ankle, according to Aaron Wilson of The Baltimore Sun. Dickson’s injury is more troubling...

Baltimore Ravens: The Best and Worst Case Scenarios

After watching the Ravens training camp last week, I noticed a few things that I must address. This team is completely flip-flopping around from a strong defense with an average offense, to an average defense with a good offense. Now, I don’t know if the offense looked that much better with the defensive lack of pressure from outside linebacker or if the offense really got that...

Ravens hold open practice at Navy Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis...

It was a special treat for Ravens fans who live near Annapolis and in southern Anne Arundel County... and it may grow into a regular trend if owner Steve Bisciottti has his way.Over 20,000 fans flocked to the Navy's home football stadium to watch a Ravens practice.Pretty impressive turnout on a Sunday afternoon in August--- and the Navy PR department made sure it was a festive...

Baltimore Ravens: Biggest Home Game of the Season

For most diehard Baltimore Ravens’ fans, there is one home game every season that matters more than the others. In fact, it goes without saying that the Pittsburgh Steelers are the one team they want to beat more than anyone else. So, it might come as a surprise to many that the biggest home game for Baltimore in 2012 is not on December 2nd against Pittsburgh, but instead on...

Falcons vs. Ravens: Five observations

It's telling that after the Falcons' 31-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in their preseason opener on Thursday that the head coaches of both teams were displeased with their respective teams' performances. Maybe that's just the nature of the preseason. Falcons head coach Mike Smith concentrated his postgame remarks mostly on why his team didn't win, as if it...

NFL Preseason Week 1: Matt Ryan Outplays Joe Flacco

As the two top quarterback prospects of 2008, Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco will forever be linked together. Ryan was the pro-ready prospect while Flacco was viewed as a quarterback with huge potential and a big arm, but was unpolished coming out of Delaware.   While both started from day one and enjoyed success with talented supporting casts, Flacco is the only one to experience any...

Ravens TE Dickson (shoulder) likely out 2-3 weeks

The Ravens went to Atlanta with enviable depth at the tight end position. They boarded the homebound plane to Baltimore wondering how long Ed Dickson (shoulder) and Dennis Pitta might be sidelined. Dickson's injury appears to be the more serious of the two. He's scheduled for an MRI Friday to determine the severity of his shoulder injury which the team diagnosed initially...
