Hands and fingers are much needed tools for wide receivers and Pittsburgh Steelers rookie wide receiver Markus Wheaton broke one of his digits this past Sunday in the loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Head coach Mike Tomlin announced on Wednesday that the Steelers third-round draft pick had surgery preformed on Tuesday to repair the broken pinkie finger, but didn't offer up any clues as to whether or not he'd be ready for the game against the New York Jets a week from this coming Sunday. "He had it surgically repaired," Tomlin said after Wednesday's practice. "I think we got to get the stitches out before we even look at how we proceed from there. Of course it will be a number of days before that's able to transpire. So I'll have you an update at that appropriate time." The Steelers won't practice again until Monday and we won't likely get an update on Wheaton until Tomlin talks to the media on Tuesday. Should Wheaton wind up not being able to practice next week, Derek Moye, who has been inactive for the last two games, would likely get a helmet for the game against the Jets. The Penn State product has played all of four snaps on offense so far this season, but did manage to catch one pass for a touchdown from one yard out in the week two loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
