Found December 13, 2011 on Football Nation:
The two preeminent stories coming into the 2011 NFL season were the injury to Peyton Manning and where that would leave the Indianapolis Colts and the assembling of the “Dream Team” Philadelphia Eagles. Both those stories remained in the limelight for the first half of the season, as the Colts swooned towards a winless season and the Dream became a fully-realized nightmare for the Eagles. In the last few weeks, those stories have been buried behind the death-defying Denver Broncos and Green Bay’s pursuit of an undefeated season.   Indianapolis has been forgotten for now; once the season ends and they’re officially on the clock, what they decide to do with the first pick in the draft will become the dominant story of the early offseason. Philadelphia has also been forgotten in the last couple weeks, after an embarrassing Thursday night massacre at the feet of Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle Seahawks. The Eagles were never able to find any semblance of cohesion on defense, unable to ke...

Casserly: Manning likely a Colt

Charlie Casserly thinks Peyton Manning will likely be a Colt next year based on his progress.  If he's right then the Colts are doing a terrific job of driving up the value of the #1 overall pick: CBS Sports Charley Casserly reported on Sunday that Manning's rehab is progressing, the Colts could potentially seek an extension on the deadline for that expensive option, and...

Colts: Manning throwing but won't play

The Colts will have to win their last two games the same way they tried to win their first 14 -- without Peyton Manning. Minutes after the previously winless Colts got their first win, 27-13 over Tennessee, team vice chairman Bill Polian said the four-time league MVP will not play this season though he has begun throwing to teammates at the team complex. The comments came in a...

Like a cannon ball through your suburban window, it's time to shatter some myths. I mean, you can't honestly expect me to talk about yesterday's game, can you? There's a popular refrain in some quarters these days that the Colts 0-13 start proves that Peyton Manning was the only good thing about the Colts for the last decade. Many have argued that the Colts have...

NFL Week 14 Recap: Broncos-Bears

MILE HIGH MIRACLE MAN DOES IT AGAIN Peyton Manning once famously said, "You hear about how many fourth quarter comebacks that a guy has and I think it means a guy screwed up in the first three quarters." Whether Manning knew it or not, he was basically defining Tim Tebow’s 2011 season, as yet again, three quarters of mediocre football gives way to another miraculous...

Tuesday Open Thread: What If?

Here's your open thread for Tuesday: What if the Colts had gone undefeated in 2009? Obviously it would make this season all the more ironic. But would the Packers run dampen it? The argument at the time was that going undefeated was this impossible task and a once in a generation thing. Funny thing is that there have been 7 teams in NFL history go 13-0. Five of them have done...
