60 Max Power O:
Somehow Matt Flynn, a backup QB in Green Bay, can play a meaningless game and draw more interest than Alex Smith, the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers.
While Flynn is getting attention, Robert Griffin III is pushing Andrew Luck for the top quarterback spot in the upcoming college draft. Now, if you’re talking serious QB talk, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees come to mind.
However, this is the story of Alex Smith, the former number one overall pick in the 2005 draft, 24 picks ahead of Aaron Rodgers.
While Rodgers would ascend to stardom, Smith began a journey of mediocrity. Sometimes, though it’s not all his fault, 5 coordinators in 5 years doesn’t help any quarterback's growth.

We ran across this article from Mac’s Football Blog, breaking down the contract for Ahmad Brooks. Yesterday Matt Maiocco reported that the actual value of the contract was $37 million and included $17.5 million in guaranteed money.
The site Mac’s Football Blog went even further discussing the breakdown of the contract and how once again Paraag Marathe brokered the 49ers one hell...
SAN FRANSISCO, March2- In a statement, the San Francisco 49ers announced today that they have used their non-exclusive franchise tag on safety Dashon Goldson.
“Dashon has been a 49er since we selected him in the fourth round of the 2007 draft,” said 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke. “By using the franchise tag on Dashon, it affords us the opportunity to continue to work...
The fat contract awarded Ahmad Brooks sends a message the 49ers are willing to pay to keep their top players scheduled to become free agents later this month. But are they willing to pay the top dollar that will be commanded by cornerback Carlos Rogers to remain with the team? Or should the Niners let the Pro Bowler go to see what he’s worth on the open market? We take a look at both sides.
The San Francisco 49ers have placed the franchise tag on safety Dashon Goldson, who had been set to become an unrestricted free agent March 13.
The move by the NFC West champions Friday keeps Goldson off the free agency market. General manager Trent Baalke says the team will attempt to sign Goldson to a long-term deal but at least knows he will be with the Niners again in 2012....
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the San Francisco 49ers will place their franchise tag on safety Dashon Goldson.
Goldson had a great year in 2011 with 67 tackles and 6 interceptions.
Since the 49ers used their tag on Goldson, they’ll have to work hard over the next week and a half to get quarterback Alex Smith and cornerback Carlos Rogers under contract.
Priority #1 for the 49ers in the offseason was to re-sign their key players. They have taken the first steps in doing so by re-signing OLB Ahmad Brooks and giving the franchise tag to FS Dashon Goldson.
Many, including yours truly, saw Brooks heading to free agency. It looked like the logical move. Then the 49ers sign him to a to a six-year deal worth $44.5 million overall...
Ahmad Brooks signed a six-year, $44.5-million contract extension with San Francisco on Tuesday that will take him through the 2017 season and keep one of the NFL's best linebacker units intact. The deal is worth $17.5 million guaranteed, said his agent, Greg Williams.
The 49ers appear likely to go forward at quarterback this year with Alex Smith, but now that they're a serious contender again, can they be satisfied to go into another season with two inexperienced youngsters behind him? Not a lot of teams will be looking for starting QBs during this offseason, but there will be a market for top backups, and several will be available if the...
The Patriots have been trying to figure out ways to fix their secondary. Too many players have beaten them wide or over the middle and they need more than Patrick Chung patrolling the middle to keep people on their toes.
Well, one player the Patriots were hoping to go after was San Francisco 49ers Safety Dashon Goldson, who had a monster year on the Bay. Well, that most likely...
