Geno Smith is putting together an awesome season for West Virginia and has become the early Heisman Trophy favorite.

The senior quarterback threw for 656 yards and 8 touchdowns in a 70-63 win over Baylor on Saturday to boost his already absurd stats.

Smith is 141/169 on the season, which is an 83% completion rate. Yes, in 169 attempts, he only has 28 incompletions. For some perspective, Miami quarterback Stephen Morris passed for an ACC and school record 566 yards on Saturday, and he had 23 incompletions in the game. Smith only has five more incompletions all year.

Smith has thrown for 1,728 yards through four games — good for an average of 432 per game. He has thrown for 20 touchdowns and no interceptions. He even has 98 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. That’s 21 touchdowns in four games.

Last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, Robert Griffin III, wowed observers with his crazy stats the first month of the season. But Smith has been even better than Griffin was.

Let’s compare their numbers through the first four games of their senior seasons:

RG3: 92/112 (82%), 1308 yards, 18 TD/1 INT, 173 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD
Smith: 141/169 (83%), 1726 yards, 20 TD/0 INT, 98 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD

One other key stat: West Virginia has gone 4-0 while Baylor went 3-1. Yeah, barring an implosion, I’d say Smith is on schedule to win the Heisman Trophy this season.
