New York Giants running back Andre Brown was placed on short-term injured reserve, after suffering a broken leg in the preseason finale. Short-term injured reserve is a new rule change put into place prior to the last season, allowing teams to designate one player for eventual return. Previously every player designated to injured reserve missed the entire rest of the season regardless of health. Brown had initially thought that the injury was a "tiny little crack" and he wouldn't miss much time when asked after the game.
I can come back from this.... in a couple weeks
Brown emerged from unknown last season having carried the ball last while playing for Denver in 2010. In Browns previous four years he played in three games rushing for -1 yards on two carries. How fast tides turn in the NFL, Brown carried the ball 73 times for 385 yards and eight touchdowns in 2012.
The loss of Brown leaves the Giants without their top two leading rushers from last season. Leading rusher Ahmad Bradshaw took his 1,015 yards and six touchdowns to the Indianapolis Colts. David Wilson will now get a chance to regain his role in the offense which he lost due to an ill timed fumble(only one of the season) in week one last season.
One concern the Giants have for Wilson is how he will hold up on goal line carries which were previously handled by the bigger Brown. Maybe the Giants biggest problem is Wilson often times struggles in pass protection which could be a problem for Eli Manning. Among all of the question marks one thing is for certain, Wilson brings a home run threat to the New York Giants offense.
