One week on the football field is all Terrell Thomas needed to get most of his quiet confidence back and a handful of practices is all he needed to once again believe in his battered body.
Now the Giants cornerback is pondering the next step in his complicated return to action. After two years away Thomas may suit up for this Sunday’s preseason home game against the Indianapolis Colts.
“We don’t know yet” Thomas said Wednesday. “We’re just taking it one day at a time. . . . There’s no rush to get me out there but if I’m ready to go I’m ready to go.”
The Giants had a scare when safety Antrel Rolle sprained his ankle on Monday but they could soon gain back a valuable vet in Thomas. Rolle was seen walking without a boot and doing drills on Wednesday. While nothing is certain — and Thomas stressed that the team “still has a lot of time before Sunday” — there’s a growing feeling that Thomas who is battling to come back from a third ACL tear in his right knee could be ready to play
