For years now Heath Miller has been one of the better tight ends in the NFL.  You would not know that though by how he has been misused in the Steelers offense.  Miller is under utilized as a pass catcher and his abilities were wasted in Bruce Arians offense.

Miller was used as a blocker in the old Steelers offense.  He still will be in the new offense but he will be more of a weapon as well.  Miller will benefit as that weapon from the draft choices the Steelers made this season.  Miller was used more as a blocker then a pass catcher becasue of the little faith in the offensive line.  He had to stay in and block on many occasions for passing downs.  He had to leak out when Roethlisberger got in trouble rather than be part of the pattern.

That seems like it will change with the addition of David DeCastro and Mike Adams.  The Steelers will have a more solid offensive line and Miller can be used correctly.  He can get out in the pattern and get us first downs and points.  That is something that the Steelers have missed in the past.

Todd Haley is excited about having Miller as well.  Haley went as far as to call Miller “one of my favorite players.”  Haley will use Miller the way that he needs to be used.  He will get him involved in the red zone and use him efficiently.

Tomlin has noticed Haley’s excitement about Miller saying,

“Haley is excited about what Heath Miller is capable of… He’s been very clear about that, his excitement to work with Miller. I would imagine that the tight end is going to be a part of our plan.”

This is music to my ears.  Miller has been such a valuable asset to this team even while being used improperly.  Think of the possiblities now that he will be more of a focal point of the offense.  He could do big things.

It looks like we may here a lot more HEEEEAAAATTTTHHHH! at Heinz Field this season and I like the sound of that.
