Will the Darrelle Revis Era in Tampa Bay live up to the hype?Photo Credit: Kim Klement USA TODAY Sports on SI.com The Tampa Bay Buccaneers introduced their newest asset this week after a whirlwind Sunday of speculation and intrigue. After passing his physical, Darrelle Revis signed his contract and excited fans across the Bay area.   However, as history shows, Buccaneers fans may find themselves disappointed after the 2013-2014 season. The team from Tampa Bay unfortunately has a history of disappointing its fans. For example, after acquiring Jon Gruden in 2002, the Bucs went on to win the Super Bowl and looked like they had a defense that could win them a few more championships. Interestingly, the euphoria in Tampa was short-lived as the Bucs finished the next season a lowly 7-9 and missed the playoffs.   Coach Gruden led the team until 2009 when the Glazers (Team Owners) showed him the door and set their sights elsewhere. They decided to hire Raheem Morris, who would lead Tampa Bay to a 10-6 record in only his second season. Although once again, Bucs fans’ hopes were dashed the following year when the team fell from 4-2 to 4-12. Tampa Bay fans were victims to a ten game losing streak to end the year. Not so surprisingly, after the season the Glazers were once again searching for a new head coach. They found their guy in Greg Schiano and hired him in early 2012.   Greg Schiano is in year two of his head coaching tenure. In the second game of the season the coach made headlines by having his defense challenge an Eli Manning kneel-down on the last play of a tough loss to the Giants. The move was not viewed favorably by most of the country but it was well received in Tampa. Fans had a coach that was fighting for his team on every play. The Bucs even made it to a 6-4 record last year until they dropped five in a row and finished 7-9.   So maybe Tampa Bay has new hope with Revis. The cornerback could represent a major help for the league’s worst pass defense. The Bucs did finish last season with the league’s number one run defense. Darrelle Revis may not be an instant cure-all that gets the Bucs to a playoff spot, but if he comes back from an ACL tear with his old proficiency the Bucs may find themselves celebrating a playoff spot on Revis Island. An event, which would have fans around Florida singing, “Hey Hey Tampa Bay.”
