The NFL continued their Top 100 player countdown Wednesday night, revealing players ranked 71-80. Coming off his first Pro Bowl appearance, the Houston Texans’ Johnathan Joseph made the list at #73. Having never made the list before, Joseph’s first season in Houston saw him emerge as one of the league’s premier cover cornerbacks. Joseph finished 2011 with 44 tackles, 4 INTs, and a forced fumble.

A couple of the interviewed players asked about Joseph were quarterbacks, who seemingly had tremendous respect for him. “You know what your going to get with Johnathan, a really fast, man-to-man cover guy who can make plays on the ball,” said Jaguars QB Blaine Gabbert. Teammate QB T.J. Yates added, “He’s got amazing ball skills. He goes up and gets the ball like Andre Johnson. Its just one of those things where you just kinda step back and go ‘wow, that was impressive’.”

Joseph spent the first five years of his career in Cincinnati, where he piled up an additional 14 INTs, bringing his career total to 18 and thus proving Joseph is far from a one year wonder. It will be interesting to see how many other cornerbacks land on this list ahead of Joseph. St. Louis Rams CB Cortland Finnegan was at #93 and Philadelphia Eagles CB Nnamdi Asomugha came in at #79. It’s understandable that New York Jets CB Darrell Revis will be ahead of Joseph, but from there its anybody’s guess. Guys like Green Bay Packer Charles Woodson and Denver Bronco Champ Bailey are strong possibilities, but there are not many.

Joseph is most likely not the last Houston Texan we will see on this list. The NFL releases another ten players on their list every Wednesday night, so fans should keep an eye out to see where other Texans land on this list.
