What a confidence booster for the Indianapolis Colts and their fan base. Sure the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t really beaten anybody of note this season, but they’re a good team that has won on a consistent basis this season. Griff Whalen had a fantastic outing today with 7 catches for 80 yards. (Photo credit: Colts.com) And the Colts pulled out a convincing victory against them today. The Colts’ banged up interior line held up, their running backs put forth a productive outing, the receivers stepped up and the franchise quarterback had another great day. And all thanks go to the offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton. He called another great game, opening up the offense and fluctuating the tempo throughout the game: all in all, giving Andrew Luck more freedom than he has had all season. Griff Whalen also had a huge day and I am loving his progression as this season comes to a close. And Donald Brown put forth another great effort on the ground and through the air, scoring both Colts’ touchdowns. Let’s not forget to give credit to the offensive line, I was skeptical of how they would perform today but they gave Luck a proper pocket and helped this offense succeed in Kansas City. But the defense was the true surprise of the afternoon: holding the Chiefs scoreless after their first drive of the game. They were hitting hard, flying to the ball and taking advantage of turnover oppurtunities, of which they had three. Credit goes to Greg Manusky (who I’m still not sold on), Chuck Pagano and Greg Toler. Sure, Toler didn’t play a lot, but apparently there’s something about seeing him in pads that makes this defense go. At least, that’s my theory. Outside of the defense, I really liked what I saw from the receiving core and backfield. As I stated before Whalen is looking like a The Indianapolis Colts defense produced 3 turnovers today: 2 interceptions and 1 fumble here. (Photo credit: Colts.com) great signing these past few weeks, Da’Rick Rogers is a threat that defenses have to account for, LaVon Brazill can help produce big plays alongside T.Y. Hilton and Coby Fleener has brought forth decent production. As long as the Colts can solidify their offensive line situation I really like the Colts’ chances in the playoffs. Yes, I am retracting my statement of a few weeks back when I said the Colts are a pretender. They are starting to prove they can be a viable threat in the weak AFC. In fact, they still have a chance at the 2nd seed in the playoffs. In order to attain that goal, the Colts must beat the Jacksonville Jaguars next week and the Baltimore Ravens have to win both of their last two games. Time to get out the Ravens gear: Go Ravens and Go Colts!
