Eagles DE Mike Patterson will miss all of training camp as he continues to recover from offseason brain surgery. He is among several Eagles that are already injured as the first preseason game approaches.

There are lot of hopes riding on the 2012 Eagles. As hard as it is to believe, maybe even mores than in 2011 when A certain backup QB pronounced them the team to beat.

I have said all along that I believe the Eagles have done the right things in this offseason to put themselves in a great position to win. Ultimately, though, it will come down to the health of this team. We’ve already talked about for two years now the health of Michael Vick and how his playing style could dramatically impact the team’s success, but there are other concerns as well.

The Eagles have already lost arguably the best offensive lineman in the NFL in Jason Peters to his twice-ruptured Achilles’ tendon. In the first few days of full contact practice, the Eagles have lost Jason Babin, Cullen Jenkins and Trent Cole.

The hope, of course, is that none of the injuries are serious and that the anchors of the all important defensive line will be back and able to perform at 100% by week 1. Cullen Jenkins, who sustained a hamstring injury yesterday, underwent a precautionary MRI.

Tackle Mike Patterson is already sidelined through all of camp because of offseason brain surgery.

Jason Babin has calf strain. Trent Cole has AC joint swelling in his shoulder.

Add in the injury to Brent Celek, and you have some legitimate concern about the health of this team. Regardless of whether this team has the talent to win on its roster, health is always an issue in football.

In order for this team to live up to the lofty expectations, they will have to be able to field the best players it has every week. Continuing to hear injury updates everyday out of camp to marquee players makes me cringe.
