Found March 12, 2012 on Football Nation:
For Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets, something has to give in 2012. After a painful end to this past season, the Jets have to move on and commit to getting back to the potential Super Bowl contender they were in prior seasons which gave hope to a long-suffering fan base. In order to give support to their much-maligned quarterback, the Jets announced that Sanchez would receive a three year extension for $40.5 million. Even though they didn’t have to yet, the Jets are gambling that this move will be an incentive for their aspiring star quarterback to live up to the hype, to prove the critics wrong, and to be the expected leader on a team in desperate need for one. Sanchez’s extension isn’t even that surprising when you fathom that Sanchez was already going to be in the pocket for the next couple of seasons anyway. The Jets partially made this deal so they can create more cap space that they desperately need. With glaring holes on both sides of the ball which could include upgrade...

Mark Sanchez Contract Extension Could Make Or Break New York Jets

For all the derision Mark Sanchez has earned over the years, Jets owner Woody Johnson defends who he believes is the franchise quarterback and has full trust in him, expressing confidence in his players. Much to the chagrin of the unnamed player anonymously slammed incumbent Sanchez in an interview with the New York Daily News—calling him “lazy and content,” a few petulant...

The NY Jets’ Expensive Apology to Sanchez and the mixed message it sends

When most of us heard about the NY Jets extending Sanchez's contract, this is the face we made. As most of the football world was trying to decide if the Washington Redskins gave up too much to the St. Louis Rams to move up to the 2nd pick and grab Robert Griffin III, the Jets surprised everyone by extending their QB Mark Sanchez’s contract by 3 years and 40.5 million dollars...

Sanchez's deal an insincere gesture

When the New York Jets drafted quarterback Mark Sanchez in 2009, he was supposed to be the next Joe Namath, the savior under center who would return the franchise to glory. In the three years since the team took Sanchez fifth overall, those idyllic dreams have failed to materialize, and at times -- especially recently -- Sanchez has looked more bust than boon. But the Jets and general...

Jets give Sanchez extension, out of Manning hunt

Forget all that Peyton Manning talk. The Jets are sticking with Mark Sanchez. No hard feelings, either. Sanchez's ego is just fine - and so is his wallet. After New York ''looked into'' pursuing Manning, Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum announced Friday night that the team extended Sanchez's contract by three years. The move ended speculation the Jets...

What Mark Sanchez Can Learn From Drew Brees

ather than spending their weekend trying to lurePeyton Manning to New York where he could ply his trade in the same home stadium stadium as his brother, the New York Jets sent a strong message of their own by extending a three-year extension, including $27 million guaranteed, to fourth-year quarterback Mark Sanchez. In the grand scheme of things, his fourth season could be a

New York Jets: Free Agency Primer 3.0

We are now only two days away from NFL free agency starting up and the picture has changed substantially for the New York Jets with the restructuring of Mark Sanchez’s contract, which freed up 6.4 million of cap space this year and dropped them out of the Peyton Manning sweepstakes. What kind of changes will this roster have in the coming weeks? Offensive Line – We knew not...

Will Mark Sanchez’s extension impact the Joe Flacco talks?

News came out late Friday night that New York Jets quarterback signed a three-year contract extension. It has $20.5 million guaranteed. How does that impact the talks for Baltimore quarterback Joe Flacco? The short answer is Flacco and his agent will want more than the Jets gave Sanchez. And they should. Flacco is a more accomplished quarterback than the Jets’ third-year player...

New York Jets: Potential Free Agent Targets

This month I expect the New York Jets to spend considerable amount of time on the phone with Peyton. No, not Peyton Manning. Peyton Hillis. He would be the perfect pick up for the Jets this offseason. With Mark Sanchez and Shonne Greene both taking steps back this year, it's time for an upgrade. Greene has been his best working as a spilt-the-load running back.   Peyton Hillis...

Jets make a deal with their Sanchize

The New York Jets learned fairly quickly once Peyton Manning became a free agent that he didn’t want to go play there. Who knows the reasons why, but there wasn’t a planned visit after the Jets put feelers out for them.  But the because the Jets showed interest in him, that had to have shaken the confidence of Mark Sanchez, their starting QB the last 3 years. The #5 overall...

Jets Bow Out of the Manning Race

Fans that were itching to see the Peyton and Eli Manning compete for the love of the Big Apple are going to be a little disappointed. The New York Jets effectively took themselves out of the running for the elder Manning’s services by giving their current quarterback, Mark Sanchez, a contract extension. “To find out that I could come back for three more years means the world...

Jets showed interest in Manning, then gave Sanchez an extension?

Over the past few weeks, the New York Jets were counted as one of the teams that would go after Peyton Manning upon his release from the Indianapolis Colts. Manning started making the rounds on Friday, first in Denver to meet with the Broncos, with an expected visit with the Cardinals and possibly Chiefs. Many thought the Jets would still make an effort, but nothing, no word from...
